Pennzoil conventional seems to get a lot of love here on the forum. Perhaps deservedly so. I am running it right now as a "rinse" phase following an Auto-rx treatment. I just looked at stats on Mobil 5000 in comparison to Pennzoil conventional on PQIA's site. The Mobil 5000 had a higher TBN, more calcium ( a detergent?) and a much higher moly count than Pennzoil conventional. It would appear from the stats on PQIA's site, and I am no tribologist, that Mobil 5000 is a comparable if not better oil than Pennzoil conventional. It can probably be had much cheaper than Pennzoil conventional, depending on where you shop. When Mobil 5000 is mentioned here it is referred to as an "ok oil, good enough for a 3k oci". What am I missing?

I would not be making comparisons based on things reported at the PQIA website; that site is to verify that what is printed on the bottle is actually what is sold.
Formulations are proprietary and that probably determines "how good" and oil is.

I think you are missing more input from more users of Mobil Super 5000
. I think it is more than "OK"; here are 3 used oil analysis of Mobil Super 5000 ranging from 5100 to 8200 miles. I will say that Mobil Super 5000 can easily stand toe-to-toe with Pennzoil Conventional and it has held up as good or better than Pennzoil Ultra in my FX4.

Both are EXCELLENT oils.
The only thing that I don't like (but still use Mobil Dc/5000/Super/whatever they call it today) is that they use sodium which will mask coolant in a used oil analysis.

True; but most coolants also contain potassium that should show up as well. If coolant is suspected, the sodium PPM count is well known for Mobil Super 5000, but you do bring up a good point for those that may not consider this.

Especially when it was available for $4.99 after $5 MIR from O'Reilly earlier this year. It is a great oil good enough for 5k OCI at the least.

I love Mobil Clean 5000. Just used it in my sisters Honda yesterday. Walmart had it in 5 qt jugs for $13.99 plus a 3756 napa gold filter and she has a quality oil change good for 5k miles for under 20 bucks. Better and cheaper than when wm did it last with a fram core 6607 filter and god knows what oil.

The Mobil 5000 has impressed me.
I like this oil, but if you leak or burn any, you'll do so faster with it. I found 25-30% increases in oil loss/use in the 2 vehicles I tried it in.
I continue using it for a cleanout in any vehicles I buy.

yeah imo if ur gonna go hm then pennzoil or valvoline is the best bet
