There are no legal or industry minimums on the synthetic content of synthetic blends. The terms "synthetic", "semi-synthetic", "partial synthetic", "synthetic blend" and "high mileage" are all undefined marketing terms with no legal weight.

The lubricants industry unofficially considers Group IIIs, Group IVs, and some Group Vs to be synthetic, but there are no official rules and not everyone follows the accepted terms. Also, keep in mind that the difference between a Group II (conventional) and Group III (synthetic) is just one VI point. Utterly meaningless.
