PP or PU?

PU will keep it cleanest. I keep low oci because of GDi and timing chain. Just look for oil with good levels of moly, boron, and HTO 6 spec. Run QSUD 5w30 in high temperature and Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra in winter in 5w30 . My car spec 5w20 but also says 5w30 or 10w30 too. I only run 10w30 two oci when temperature run 100F consistently. Ive added Ceratec so I am content with 5w30 but wouldn't hesitate to at the very least substitute a qt for 10w30 during long hot days. Use a good filter like napa gold or fram ultra too..It helps a lot.

There are a couple easy differences to spot...

1) PUP msds sheets will list the specific percentage of GTL base stocks, while PP typically does not... meaning that you're probably getting a higher percentage of GTL in PUP -vs- PP... which will assist with the cleanliness.
2) PUP has Boron included as an additive, while current PP formulations do not... this will also help with the cleanliness claims.

Is it worth the pretty big markup that PUP typically carries? Probably not...

Mobil has been good when it comes to the rebates, I have been sending in the rebates Mobil has had these last couple of years. Mobil has them in the spring and fall, on the Mobil 1 and also on the Mobil Delvac. I have received the checks every time.

+1000 and part of the reason I did the Autozone M1 and M1 filter deal (M1 EP 0w20). Plus if I wait til' spring I can do the M1 rebate for 2 jugs of AFE or EP M1

this. I am already looking ahead for the summer months which for us down south south starts in March. Looking out for the PU 10-30 starts about now or possibly the QS 5w-30 stuff for the high heat?! man I am torn between using the Pennzoil synthetics in the 10-30 or try the QSUD 5w-30 for the high heat. ?? The million dollar lottery question is should I continue with the PU if I can find it given it uses oi as it cleans??

If you are really committed to a CLEAN cycle SO TO SPEAK, I would go Ultra and believe me it does work just like advertised. If you just want to go balls to the wall, then PP and you won't have to really worry about a "tremendous" weep cycle. How clean you want your engine and internals and how important is it based on the MILEAGE of the vehicle. Different strokes for different piston folks if you know what I mean cause a brand new car requires none of the cleaning, riggggghtttt??!?!
