Found PP locally at Ace Hardware, priced at $9.70 per quart. 10W-30 goes for $8.90 per quart. So for 5 quarts, I'm looking at $48.50 or $44.50.

I understand PP is highly sought after...but is it really worth it at this price? I'm looking to extend my OCI from 3000 miles to at least 6000 miles...preferably 10,000 miles, however.

Mobil 1 (5w30 or 0W-40) and Castrol Edge (5W-40 or 10W-60) are priced at $9.90 per litre in comparison. Both are sold with a 10,000 mile OCI recommendation by their authorised dealers in the Middle East.

PP is group 3 only and Mobil is group3 + some group4/5, and as the same price I would get the Mobil 1. There are Ace hardware's in the middle east and they closed them around me. Wow.

Thanks, I reckoned it was a bit overpriced. Ace Hardware's been around for over 12 years here, although its a franchise just like McD, BK, etc. :)

PP is sought after, but that's mainly to BOGO free deals, so it was typically 1/2 of the cost of Mobil, who rarely does such things.

What I saw was definitely for the US market. I contacted Pennzoil not too long ago, and they said they were not planning on marketing their products outside of North America...which explains why I cannot find it elsewhere. Apparently its an "off the shelf" product in Ace Hardware's US stores, and that's how it made its way here...or so I'm told.

wait a minute...i thought people were saying that PP was giving even better UOA than Mobil-1 and the additive pkg (moly, etc.) was better in PP too? Heck I recall one guy saying he was switching a C-6 vette from Mobil-1 to PP because it was a better oil and just happened to be cheaper but that is not the only reason it has such a following?

Group 2/2+ is really good enough, especially for 3-6 months of use and group3 is way better good for up to 1 yr. easily. Now most will not go over this so something better like group4/5 not required by most. Base oil that good does not need much help(ie adds) so the lesser stuff, group3 vs. group4/5, may well have a more robust add pack because it needs it to work well.

I'm not sure I would run any of them to 6K after looking at the pictures of that sand storm you posted. Some of that stuff has to be getting inside the engine.
