Castrol GTX 10w-40 - 4,786 miles - 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan 6MT

Appreciate it! As of this writing, 10w-40 is the thickest oil, that I feel comfortable with. The manual for this car states 5w30, 10w30, and 10w40, conventional oil. It also seems like synthetics get eaten up quicker with this motor. The full conventional oils did not consume as much, as the synthetic blends.

Will look into the 15w-40 for a VQ35DE. I'm sure it has been done before. If my current Chevron Supreme 5w-30 synth blend burns up too much, going to look for a thick 10w-40, or 5w-40, that doesn't shear down easily, (Rotella?). The GTX 10w-40 seemed like a thick-ish 10w-40, and did the best compared with the various oils that I have tried with this engine, no doubt.

When I owned my VQ35de powered cars two of them were aftrmarket forced induction ( 2x 350Z, one with a Vortech and one with a ProCharger running 389 and 411 whp respectively).
I always ran Mobil 1 15w-50 with those.
My other VQs were 5w-40 or in winter 0w-40

I was a huge VQ guy for many years, onwed two 350Zs, three G35s.

Good point. Have thought about a High Mileage oil. Have not used an HM oil on a car before. A bit skeptical of them, to be honest. However, if the performance is good, and it reduces the oil burning much better, seems like a solid choice.
Our Tahoe we had was burning 1 qt every 1200 miles. I put Super-s high milage oil in it and never had to add oil again in the 5000 miles oci. I say try a HM oil and report back

Yes. never heard of a VQ burning oil unless it was a 2007 or 2008 rev-up motor.

Apparently the HR's don't burn very much. However the DE and especially the DE "Rev-Up" can burn. I'm surprised you haven't heard. There were many complaints and a TSB. Infiniti/Nissan even had some "suspect" dipsticks, where the difference between "Low" and "High" was 2 quarts, instead of 1. Probably to reduce complaints? My dipstick is like that. Have been monitoring this engine, and when the dipstick shows half full, it is definitely 1 quart to fill it to the top, right on the "H" line. I put a full quart in it every time the oil shows halfway between Low and High.

The Rev-Up years were 05-06 6MT sedans, and 05-07 6MT coupes.

That is good to hear, your engines seemed to run fine on the 15w-50? I'm probably not gonna put a supercharger/turbo on this, but good to know.

Good to see that you were using 5w-40, 0w-40 on your NA VQ's, seem like a solid choices for the DE VQ.
