Here is the latest UOA from my 2007 manual 5 speed corolla. Pretty good mix of city stop and go driving and 70mph highway trips. This last OCI was the second run of purolator white can oil filter, so it was on the car for 11,000 miles. Replaced this with PP 5w30 and a supertech oil filter. Records show a solid average of 38mpg over this last OCI. I live on the KS/MO border and have been trying to buy my gas in KS and it seems to help my mpg average. MO gas is mandated to have ethanol, KS isn't. I will gladly pay the ten cent difference. :)

Nice. The PYB sure loses it's TBN...

Probably time to stay with PP and not look back or elsewhere!

Upgrade to a PureOne oil filter too!

Title is correct, put in the wrong viscosity in the chart. This oil change UOA was definitely 5w20 PP. Didn't notice until after it was too late to edit. I was thinking about 5w30 because that is the replacement visc. Sorry.

I was wondering about that.

I also wonder if I'm the only one who thinks you should run this to 7,500 miles or more.

Why the switch to 30wt this time?

They all appear to shear ..doesn't appear to mean anything.

While 7500 may work, I think a jump from 4 to 6 months would work. You appear to be doing 4 month OCI's that happen to hit around 5k.

I have done nothing but every 6 month oil changes on my Camry from day one after the initial break in. It is a Toyota number one and number two the OEM's 5month OCI inthe book is absolutely the dumbest thing ever. Who wants to change their oil 3 times in 15 months that is a lame schedule from just a day to week to month number situation. Only some idiot in an office would come up with oddball numbers like that.

I would go to any synthetic you like. I prefer Mobil-1 but the price point leader is PP at Walmart 9 out of 10 times. I do not think much of PP as a synthetic because it has week TBN retension and does not hold up as well as M1 does. The money saved is not much more then $1-$3 per oil change where I live so PP has to be on sale for me to use like the old AAP BOGO sales!

I think you would like M1 0W40 or more to the point that engine would like it but anything will do!

Both of our Toyota's require SIX month or 5,000 mile oil changes for warranty, both are 2008 RAV4 V6's. What is yours that requires five months??????

The curve that Blackstone's TBN protocol produces doesn't really work well in comparisons. Going from 10 to a 3 isn't nearly 70% shot. I'd love it if someone would explain the finer points of it. I'm not flush enough to pay the $50 it costs to view it.

I also don't understand the switch to 5w30. No doubt the oil change was performed before seeing these results. A run of YB5w20 might be interesting because the YB5w30 did so well. If it were my car I would stick with the PP because you will have a cleaner engine. Once you get to the 36 mo or 60k point you could easily stretch this oci, just move up in 2500 mile increments until you don't like what you see. I wouldn't go longer than a year though.

I change my mom's 03 corolla at 6k on PYB all the time. Nothing but beautiful UOA's and 1.9 TBN residual every time.

Forget the PP and stick with the YB if you are keeping OCI to 5K or 6 months.

Before seeing this UOA I was thinking of the previous two UOA that showed trace amounts of fuel. I was curious how the 5w30 version of PP would do. You never know until you try. I was relieved to see there was no trace fuel this time. Maybe I didn't run the engine long enough on the previous two changes. This one had about an hour of 70mph driving immediatly before the change.

I don't mind running it out more miles, but I had a good chance to change the oil before the holidays and the cold weather. Since I plan to run this out over the course of winter this one will probably go out to 6500 miles.

Both our Toyota's, a 2007 Yaris and a 2007 4Runner, also require 6mon/5,000 OCI's. On the daughters Yaris, we change the oil every 5k miles, as she puts miles on the car. For the 4Runner, we change every 6mon, as the wife only puts about 4k miles on it every 6 months.

Interesting that both the YB 5w30's sheared down to 20wt's. I am just not a fan of dino's on 5k OCI's. Sure, it doesn't look like the shearing caused any additional wear, but I just hate the way my engines sound and feal with sheared oil in them.

PP's TBN retention and shearing seems to be about even with non-EP M1, 5W-30 to 5W-30.

I will say that every engine I've switched from M1 to PP seems to run better and use slightly less oil though.

Great UOA. I wouldn't change a thing, but you could run it longer if you wanted. I wouldn't switch to M1, you simply won't get better results than this. Up here in the great white north M1 is ridiculously overpriced!

Have you considered trying the YB5w20 just to see how it does? It might look as good as or better than the yb5w30. At 5k ocis this would save you a couple of bucks. When you are past the powertrain warranty (60k/5years I think) you could stretch the oci, if you choose and then PP makes more sense.

My 2003 Camry calls for 5 month or 5000 mile oil change intervals for sever service or 5 month 7500 miles for normal service! When I saw that the first day I came home with the car I actually said "What moron in Japan thought that up!" I am not kidding you who does "5" when you have a 12 month calender year that divides into 3,4,6 so much nicer mathematically? I have been doing 6 months unlimited millage so I have had some where I barely got 1500 miles in 6 months and some where I had 10K+ on the OCI.

I am sure it had some thing to do with the sludge issues at the time but still lets not toss the bay out with the bath water....

Stick with either Pennzoil and 6 month intervals and you will be all set. Obviously PYB will be a little cheaper over the long run.
