Note about Blackstone labs:

My previous UOA showed some erroneous numbers and Blackstone offered a free UOA to me. One year later a simple note on the information that I sent in yielded a free UOA, no hassle, no phone calls just a simple rebate for their mistake. I really appreciate the way Blackstone has treated me and feel like that needs to be said on this board. With that said, on to the good stuff:

This is from a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with the 2.7l (3RZ-FE) engine. Total time on this OCI was 8-9 months. Previous UOA shows PYB for 5K miles. After that a shorter run with PP for 7K miles and then this run at 9.9K miles. Over the OCI temperatures ranged from -30 to 90ºF, some longer trips and some city driving but mostly rural highways. Overall it seems pretty good but there are several items I'm sure you guys will pick up on that I'm not sure how to interpret.

Watcha think?

I don't think you could find an oil, at any cost, that would do better in this engine. Those results are great, especially considering 9,900 miles. Pennzoil Platinum is without a doubt one of the best oils on the market regardless of price.

Little bit of fuel, but no big deal. Flashpoint is kinda low because of the fuel. Wear metals and contaminants look great.

Really an awesome UOA for an oil that isn't marketed as an extended-drain oil. Wonder what the TBN of it would've been.

Other than the TBN I am a noob to reading these. Is there a link to teach some one what each one should be. I notice on some a high number is good and on some a low number is good.

I just wonder how they could say that without a TBN #.

I wouldn't follow B_S's recommendation on 12k. I think 7500mi would be your sweet-spot due to fuel dilution but obviously 9k is doable. Thanks for sharing the report!

I'm sure they secretly still analyze for the TBN count, in order to make an OCI suggestion. You have to pay extra to be able to see the numbers

Blackstone is really slipping - lots and lots of errors and inconsistencies in there results these days, be they virgin or used oil.

Oil did fine; 10k seems like a nice, round interval that works well with this oil.

Thanks for the responses! The fuel and shearing had me scratching my head. Overall it seems to have done well but I'm no expert in these things. I had some hesitation on going to the 10K mark just because there are so very few UOAs for this engine on this board.

Obviously staying with 10K miles is convenient but I could possibly shorten it if the fuel and shearing would merit that. Any more thoughts?

That's a pretty stellar report. Surprised you're running 10w30 and not 5w30 in Duluth, MN. But the engine doesn't seem to mind the 10w30, that's for sure.
