I typically get Castrol Edge 5W20, but today decided to try out Pennzoil since it's well received here. I only buy 5QT jugs and I was limited to these two options. PP 0W20 or PU 5W20. I also read a thread on here that convinced me to get a 0W20 over a 5W20. Another thread said there is no PU 0W20.

My car is an '09 Acura TSX and it just turned 50K. I change oil every 7k and use Bosch Distance filter. I got the PP 0W20. What would you have done?

PU would have been my choice. PP isn't a bad choice either. The Honda K24 isn't hard on the oil. If u drive easy 0w20 will be fine, if u like redlining it often, PU with its higher HT/HS rating will provide better protection. That engine was rated for 5w30 in the older TSX application.

both choices are equal in my opinion. PU is worshiped here, and second would be PP. the castrol edge you've been using is excellent as well.

its hard to make a poor choice in oil these days. they all are superb.

Thanks for the replies. I live in Chicago and even though it's April it's still winter. Just snowed last night. I drive 120 miles round trip to work and never redline the car.

PU has a lower viscosity index than most 0w-20's, but with its extremely low CCS viscosity it might actually qualify as a 0w-20. It is my current fill and I love it.

I love PP, too, but I have never used the 0w-20.

You can't go wrong with either although the ultra is higher up on the quality scale however how much does you engine really need. PP is equal to M1,so use with confidence and drive er.
The red line operation comment baffles me. PP is more than good enough for spirited driving including red line blasts,so if the PP works what's the issue.
Yes PU is a better basestock however PP isn't inadequate here.

Basically, PU is equal to or better than M1 and PP is not as good as M1 but is better than Mobil synthetic?

What does PP compare to in the synthetic world?

QSUD seems pretty close, NOAK is actually less than PP.

If you believe Pennzoil advertising, PP edges out Mobil 1 while PU surpasses it by a wide margin.

The PU 5W20, 5W30, and 10W30 are the only ones that call out GLT base oil in the MSDS's.

"Fischer-Tropsch derived base oil, consisting largely of branched, cyclic and linear hydrocarbons having carbon numbers in the range of C18 to C50."

These are also the same grades that are on clearance at WM.
Maybe the cost to WM is going up and other grades have better retail margins going forward. Maybe updates on the way. Maybe GLT proving to costly or cannot be 0Wxx.
Anyway I am stocking up all I can on the GLT grades, FAR

The latest QSUD 0W20 MSDS "COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS" makes it the same as PU 0W20, PP still worded as blend with "Highly refined mineral oils".

Really? That's very interesting. I have done a lot of reading and research on PP and never saw an article stating that.
Are you saying it's a blend like Castrol SynBlend and MC?

He's saying that PP is Group III, not Group III+(GTL).
