Powerstroke and Amsoil Questions

I have a 95 f350 with the powerstroke. I plan on installing the amsoil BMK-11 single by-pass filter. I want to use this because I am a dealer and I am gone from home 6 months out of the year and my wife doesn't want to have change a filter every 3k miles.

I can get aero-quip hose and fittings for free. If I just buy the filter mount what else, other than adaptors, will I need to get?

I'm assuming that the filter head/mount contains the restricted orifice already?

Jason,I would buy a BP-80A mount for 14 bucks and a EAO 90 bypass. All you need to do is tee off your oil pressure circuit to the bypass. From the bypass to an area to flow back into.

On my 6.9 I did the fitting at the block by the fullflow with an aeroquip type of male fitting. Aeroquip type braided hose to the inlet side of the bypass with male fitting. Male fitting on the outlet side to the steel filler neck where I drilled a hole and welded in a metal bung. In the metal bung another male fitting. Simple and effective and 1/3 the cost of buying the BMK-11 kit.

You can go at least 15,000 miles on an OCI with this set-up. Full synthetic diesel oil with both fullflow and bypass filters installed...maybe longer if you get the Amsoil EAA Air Filter.

And Yes, the BMK Kit and BP-80 have the orifice installed by Amsoil.

Do you remember what size fittings were needed for the bp-80a filter head? Same as the BMK-11 filter head?

On my powerstroke I plan on plumbing it into the full flow filter housing and the plug on the block

I don't know, I just poured over a few cans of brass fittings and took out what I needed. Just did it twice again on my two Mopars, but used Weatherhead braided hose and some more barbed fittings from my can stock.

If you order the BP-80A you will figure all the rest out....easy to bring the stuff with you to the parts house for fittings....Good luck.

If you look right around the filter adapter (by the heater pig tail) there is a pipe plug that should be 1/4". This is pressure from the pump and you can easily plumb that out to the filter. Then you can return from the filter to the pan through another 1/4" pipe plug that is on the block just above the pan rail just aft of the filter. I've done several 7.3L's this way, 2 96's and 1 97 that were OBS trucks and several 99.5+ trucks.

This is the hoses on my 95 PSD. Sorry that the picture is not super clear. This was taken a couple years ago with an old camera. The hose nearest is the return. The one on the left, barely visible, is the pressure. This was taken lying on the ground looking up at an angle.The relative position is viewable:

The BP80-A has 1/8" NPT threads so you can find brass elbows, hose barbs, etc that will fit at any hardware store. It also has the flow restrictor built-in.

Personally I wouldn't do that. It's a simple cast mount. I would go the extra expense and buy the machined mount. It's much stronger.

How about the Amsoil cast aluminum dual remote mounts? It looks just like the ones on Perma Cool's site. Any problem with them cracking with the larger filters? I hope not as I just spent the bucks for a new Ea BP100.

The EaBP90 is plenty of filter to do the job. I had mine on the 6.9 with the BP-80A for 15+ years...but the new BMK-11 is a very nice mount. I am cheap.....

Olympic is correct - the BP80A is 1/8" NPT.

Well, sure, you could use the BP-80A.
However, keep in mind that you shouldn't use the BE-100 or BE-110 element with it. I've know of these to crack on riding lawn mowers (which might have a bit more vibration than your PowerStroke.

Were it mine, I'd spend the few extra bucks for the newer mount.
