This earlier thread details that GM put a higher capacity oil cooler on the 2020+ L5P Duramax. The result was a much smaller filter because GM didn't move the fuel cooler pump.
I ordered the PPE fuel cooler pump relocation kit and installed it today. It's about an hour job with an oil change. Ramps are a must and a lift would be better. Without at least ramps, you don't have enough room to work under the truck. The only special tool that I highly recommend is a hose clamp pliers. The factory hose clams are very stiff and trying to remove them with a standard pair of pliers would be difficult at best. When you disconnect the hoses, they will drain antifreeze until the small reservoir on the firewall is empty. Don't worry about the engine block draining, that's a separate system. About a quart of antifreeze will drain, just find something else to do for about five minutes until the system is drained, else you will take a Dex-Cool bath.
My motivation for the larger PPE filter is because I extend oil drain intervals and wanted a larger filter that could run the duration of the oil change interval. This PPE filter will do the trick.
PPE kit comes with two longer hoses, mounting bracket, four hose clamps and a small nut.
You will remove the OEM hoses and mount.
These pictures help define the problem, the fuel cooler pump and hoses are in the way of the oil filter that was used on the Duramax from the beginning of time until 2019. The larger oil cooler resulted in a significantly smaller oil filter. My opinion is that there was no excuse GM couldn't have move the pump back in 2020.
The pump is held on by two bolts. The new mount uses the same nuts, leave them in the frame where they are.
I'm serious when I say don't attempt this job with out a pair of hose clamp pliers. These hose clamps are very stiff.
Pump relocated with new PPE hoses. The hoses are a bit confusing and I would suggest you take a couple pictures before you remove anything so you can see which pipe the hoses get connected to.
PPE filter mounted with plenty of room to spare.
This reservoir will empty and must be refilled.

HPL Cold Climate 15w-40 goes back in. One of the reasons I wanted to try this oil is because it is blended with no group III. The base oils are AN, Esthers, and PAO. I've seen it at -40F in the lab and it doesn't cloud and will pour out of the container when every other 15w-40 was clouded (group IIIs) and you could hold the container upside down and the oils wouldn't move.
GM Duramax 2020-2021 oil filter vs. 2001-2019 oil filter
The ACDelco PF2232 was the factory oil filter for the Duramax from 2001-2019. GM changed the Duramax filter in 2020 to the ACDelco PF26, which is considerably smaller. Below is a picture of an unused PF2232 [edit] Fram XG9100 element (from my 2018 Duramax stash) compared to a Mobil 1 210A for my...
