I had my fave shop change my oil and I noticed they billed me for an extra quart. No biggie, I thought until I later noticed a smell of burning oil. Could the extra oil have caused too much (extra) pressure and pushed through the seals? Can I fix the issue by trying a different viscosity? The Lexus just turned 100k and it has been flawless.

Could just a be a little spillage from the oil change burning off.

Check your oil level as indicated in your owner's manual to determine if they truly overfilled it or not.

Sounds like they did overfill it. It's this kind of stuff that is why I do all my own oil changes. Even our brand new 4runner which comes with 2 years of free dealer oil changes. I don't trust the bastiges.

You can tell if they overfilled it by checking the dipstick. Why are we to speculate? Any SM+ 5w30 (or backspec'd 5w20) will do.

That is very possible, you noticed this the exact same time as the oil change?

The 3.3 takes 4.7 quarts. The 3.3 in our 06 Toyota Sienna (same motor in your rx330) is most quiet and smooth on 5w-30 Castrol Edge EP (gold bottle) or Edge Magnatec.

It really dislikes Valvoline in any flavor for some reason, the valve train gets loud. I'm a big Valvoline fan and it's my "go-to" oil, just can't stand the noise it makes in this engine.
