I'm pretty happy with tirerack, and I haven't even received my purchase before.
Here's the deal.
2003 Saturn Ion 1.
I wanted to put snow tires on it this winter, we are going to get slammed here in Western New York.
Dunn tire wanted 379 to install some no name winter tires.
Firestone wanted 299 to install their firestone tires.
Walmart and BJ's club didn't even stock a winter tire for this car..
So I go on Tirerack, poking around..
I see that they had new aftermarket steel wheels for 20 bucks each on closeout.
I ended up with General Altimax Arctic tires (made in Germany, same as the Gislaved's).. for 46 bucks a pop.
They mount and roadforce balance the setup and ship directly to my door (no tax as well).
$339.80 including tax.
So, I go to checkout, it says that the tires are out of stock in the closest warehouse, but I could have them shipped right away from a further away warehouse for 45 bucks more, or I could wait 2 weeks.
I chose to wait 2 weeks. So this morning, I get a call from tirerack. The guy tells me that they are shipping from the far away warehouse for no extra charge, and they are shipping them today.
They must have mounted and balanced the tires on Thanksgiving day. Turnaround time was less than one business day from order to shipping.
The tire shops around here need to get their act together.
