post your latest transmission lubricant change.

Dropped the pan and changed the filter today in my Silverado with 60,000. At 30,000 I sucked out about 6 quarts through the dipstick tube and put back the same amount of Maxlife ATF. Today I sucked out as much as I could to try to avoid any messes (didn’t work lol). I measured 5.5 quarts, but easily spilled at least a quart. The filter and the magnet both looked good, better than I’ve seen some other 6L80E transmissions. Cleaned everything, put a new AC Delco filter in and filled it up with 5.5 quarts of Maxlife ATF and a bottle of LubeGard red.

Took it for a drive to get the transmission up to 160, since I have the GM updated thermostat. Checked it again and it was a hair below the “HOT” marks. Put about another 1/2 quart of Maxlife in and it’s right in the middle of the “HOT” on the dipstick.

Here‘s a picture of the pan magnet. Not nearly as hairy as some others I’ve seen. I was pleasantly surprised.

Old fluid looked nice and red. Dunno if it was ever serviced before. The dip stick says never need to change.
Out: 3.5 qts whatever
In: 3.5 qts Maxlife. Drove it and the level was perfect. Sometimes you get lucky.

I will do this again in 5K to 10K. Easy peasy.

2020 Transit Connect - 8F35 - 41K miles (first drain & fill)
Out: 4.5qts Motorcraft Mercon ULV (factory fill)
In: 4.5qts Motorcraft Mercon ULV

2015 Transit 250 - 6R80 - 113K miles on unit, ~63K miles on fluid
Out: 4.5qts Motorcraft Mercon LV
In: 4.5qts Motorcraft Mercon LV
Used a suction pump to remove the fluid from the pan. The first drain and fill was done by the dealer under warranty when the torque converter clutch went out.

Drained the Mercon tranny fluid from my 2002 Ford F-150 and replaced with
Amsoil signature series multi vehicle synthetic tranny fluid.
Shifting smooth as butter now.

DSG service time. 23,391 mi on Liquimoly fluid. Sportwagen is at 96,615 mi and it was changed last at 73,224 mi in Feb 2022. This fluid has 9 track days and 2 autocrosses on it. Sample to Blackstone for analysis. This makes 3 changes now. I use the bottom fill method and this change is free from FCP. I also changed the internal drain tube because I heard a crack last time....just finger tight! That part is absurdly expensive for a threaded plastic tube. DSG fluid smells terrible.

HF mityvac method.

2010 Forte - out mix of older red VML and some of the blue import multi-vehicle version. In about 3.5qts of VML Blue Multi-Import. a little higher viscosity that lists SP3

2008 CRV - out mostly DW-1 that had a D&F with 3.5 qts of VML red last year. In 3.5qts of HPL Blue.

2021 Corolla non-hybrid. 1.8L pushing a K313. I think it's 7.9qt (or liters?) capacity. Did a D&F, 2.1L came out so I put in 2.1L. Used Aisin FE instead of Toyota FE, way cheaper, plus Aisin made the transmission--wonder who has the better fluid?

Dumb question of the day: why would Aisin (a Japanese company) sell FE fluid by the quart? I was asking that myself while trying to precisely measure what had spilled out (and then rounding up from my own spilling while measuring).

That said, at 50k the fluid was barely darker than what went back in. There was some black fuzz on the drain bolt, so I'm sure the magnets are worse, but I'm going to let sleeping dogs lie for now. Few D&F's on this trans that sees almost nothing but highway to come in the future I think, but not sure I want to mess with changing the filter.

How's your Oddy like the MaxLife? 1st service, I assume?
I've been using the Idemitsu DW1 equivalent in Hondas...
Thanks!
No not the 1st. The 1st was like 15k ago did 2 drain and fills over like 500 miles. I had no issues. The shift were firmer but where not harsh. I would say my Honda does not mind it.

2013 Bmw X5 35i xdrive 117,500 miles
Drained out OEM ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid and dropped pan
Installed new ZF pan w/filter
Filled with 5.7 qts HPL Green Cold Climate ATF

Just got back from a 2900 mile road trip. Transmission had a bit of a hesitation from a dead stop before fully engaging. That problem is gone with new fluid and it shifts smoother as well.
Kind of answers my post in the other forum.

I read that ZF Lifeguard 8 is equivalent to Shell M-L12108 but saw no "MB release" version numbers.

Addinol claims a ZF6 and a ZF9 version fluid.
and Ravenol

This thread has info for many non-HPL.

The M1 ATF did not work at all. Terrible shifts.

Turns out that while M1 meets a DEX III spec it does not meet the MB 236.1 spec.

Replaced the M1 with 10.5 liters of LiquiMoly Top Tec 1100. This fluid meets both MB 236.1 and 236.6.

Shifts smoothly now. Lesson learned. 🙂

Doing another CVT service today with Redline CVT non slip fluid and HOTSHOTS shift restore.

Any suggestions for a 2005 Camry that calls for Toyota T-IV and has terrible shift quality right now? My sister's car and she thinks the trans is on the way out....I know it didn't shift really well when I drove it once a couple years ago.
Fluid was drained and refilled when she first got it at close to 170k miles. The fluid was very dark and still looked dark after the change. Looks pretty terrible now by my standards.
She is going to change it herself in hopes that it helps. I'm thinking preferably whatever fluid might be thickest, could help if it is indeed worn out.

Toyota Corolla 8 gen 1 zzz fe time to replacing clutch and adding 2 quarts eurolube 75w90 gl4/gl5. I insist to the mechanic to put original Toyota fluid or amsoil 75w90 Gl 4 but he was very quick. Talking about mechanical transmission. 1 year - no problems, shifting smoothly.
