post your latest transmission lubricant change.

Any suggestions for a 2005 Camry that calls for Toyota T-IV and has terrible shift quality right now? My sister's car and she thinks the trans is on the way out....I know it didn't shift really well when I drove it once a couple years ago.
Fluid was drained and refilled when she first got it at close to 170k miles. The fluid was very dark and still looked dark after the change. Looks pretty terrible now by my standards.
She is going to change it herself in hopes that it helps. I'm thinking preferably whatever fluid might be thickest, could help if it is indeed worn out.
Add the Hotshots Shift Restore! Works in all Atf/CVT fluid. I use it in all these Honda CVT transmissions. Try a filter replacement as it's possible the filter is overloaded and restricted flowing. It's 90 percent Group V and if you add the mix at 7.5 percentage it also does other things.

2022 Ford Transit Connect loaded with ~1500 lbs of work stuff.

Out: Factory fill with Lubeguard Red
In: Valvoline ULV with Lubeguard Red

I brought the vehicle back to the dealer saying that it shifted very odd. Their transmission guy was 5 weeks backed up so I had to wait a bit. When it finally got in, they said "it's normal". Fast forward 15k miles until today as I always planned on 20k mile service due to the weight it's loaded with. I found out that the factory fill was 1 qt low and it now shifts as one would expect. Complete incompetence at its best.

2005 Porsche Boxster 2.7 (MT5) @ 78,350 mi (OEM recommended interval = 12 years / 120K)

Out: unknown (got the car back in Apr) but the drained fluid looked "ok"
In: Redline 75W90 NS (2.4 qrt)

Luckily, my buddy had a 16mm triple square w anti temper bit (for both fill and drain bolts) so didn't have to get one. Not sure why Porsche (or Getrag) would do that while the S model or replacement parts are a "normal" 10mm hex for both drain / fill bolts - probably to prevent ignorant people draining tranny fluids instead of engine oil (given the proximity) but getting to the tranny drain plug involves removing undertray, unscrew like 12 bolts, etc...so can't mix it up (vs. oil change). Or the same tranny used for other VW cars...

Well, I know there are more than a few stories of Subaru OB owners / mechanics draining CVT fluid then filling the enginer oil on top....

2003 Toyota Corolla, 210K, 30K TOCI
Out: Aisin T-IV fluid, cant remember filter brand but probably Hastings
In: Toyota T-IV fluid, “Pioneer” filter (not the stereo brand)

Notes: small amount of metallic goo on the two magnets… nothing to be alarmed about. Rubber gasket included was the wrong size. Thankfully I had an old ATP kit with a good unused (felt-looking) gasket. Drain plug also was stripped, so I bought a new one with a crush washer. Shifts feel more crisp.

2005 RX330 Lexus. 183k miles

Out: short of 4qts of thin looking but super clean red stuff. Probably that crappy WS fluid used by mistake.

In: Simmered some water with brown sugar, salt, celery, bay leaf, soy sauce, lot of peppercorns. Put that in the bucket I had the old transmission fluid in (washed it in between).

We’ll see how it does tomorrow when I take the bird for a test drive on the grill.

Got a lid on the situation until tomorrow; Thank goodness for the low temps in the PNW this time of year (the heavy planter on top will keep the bears out of my ATF bucket).
