Did you make some sort of custom jig to to measure the auger gear oil level?

Yeah, I used a piece of an old metal oil dipstick I have in the drawer. It's inconvenient that there is no level plug like the older Ariens machines.

I let the oil drip out of the bottles from all my other vehicle oil changes. This go into the mower and topped up with 10w30. I usually get a few ounces of oil out of the bottles each year.

In: ACE 4-cycle lawnmower SAE 30, with a splash of MMO.
Changed air filter as well.

2015 John Deere D140 lawn tractor. 215 hours on the machine and 40 hours on the oil and filter.
In and Out: 15w40 RT6
A Fram TG3614 filter was left in place for a second season. That's a 15,000 mile filter in automobile applications and 40 hours on the Deere would be 1400 miles in a typical car. I figure you could handicap this by 5X for severe service / air cooled OPE and would still be okay for 100 hours.

Gotta get a brake cable for it, the previous owner had the brake cable snap, they bypassed the brake but the kill switch was still staying activated, I pulled the wire for it and have to push it up against the spark plug to ground out the coil to kill it, so before I can truly use it I need to fi that because that's just not safe.
