I wanted to run this oil for a year and test. However, oil consumption wasn't great as I topped up 3qts during this run + 1qt for the filter change (https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/mid-oci-filter-change-w-hpl-oil.390860/). After the filter change it consumed about 1qt/1k mi, and I wanted to try to solve the consumption. Also oil was already visibly more dirty that I was accustomed to seeing - HPL doing its thing, no doubt.

I didn't need to drive this car last week so did a piston soak from Sunday - Wednesday. Drained the oil into a clean container first to keep the B12 out of it. There was a lot of carbon on the pistons, but 2-6 allowed the B12 to pass through indicating the rings were clear. Through the whole time period B12 stayed on top of piston #1, I vacuumed the first try out and replaced with fresh solvent. In total, went through 3 cans of B12 giving each cylinder a couple 100mL doses - then dumped what went into the oil pan and let any residual evaporate overnight. Old oil went back in to clean out the piston soak remnants and took it for a 30min highway drive. The following day I added a couple ounces of B12 to cylinder #1 and it drained passed the rings in minutes, piston top was very clean too. Warmed the engine up after that and changed the oil + filter.

It's running great, not significantly different from before, but will continue to monitor the oil level. I'm not sure the HPL would have freed the compression rings on cylinder #1 if that was the problem at hand, so glad I tried the top-down approach.

Note: when examining the STP cartridge the filter media ripped by hand without much effort.
~9800mi OCI didn't have any appreciable oil consumption. Did a filter change halfway through and that took 0.75qt top up. Both filters looked fine and the halfway change seemed unnecessary.

Very little material on the magnetic drain.

Left PG4612EX filter for next time

This is the Gran Touring trim, it is a very nice little car. Brakes pretty soon. Needs headlamp lens restore and bulbs. I've serviced the transmission once, one more time will be good.

Nothing special! I just changed the oil only in the VENZA at 5K miles while leaving the TOYOTA filter in place that the dealer installed in July during my last FREE service. I’ll change the oil & filter in another 5K and I’ll be using either SuperTech or FRAM 0W16 along with a CarQuest premium(Blue) filter that I have in stock.

The reason that I mention ST/FRAM for my oil is because, during the holidays or when doing a favor for someone, I often get gift cards. So, depending on which card I may(keyword, “may”) receive is what oil I will use. ATMOF, I currently have a W*M gift card in my wallet with a decent balance remaining.
What in your wallet? 🤭

One of the things I miss about CA is how clean the cars stay. No salt stains, no pockmarked windshields, etc. Stored out of the sun, and a car stays near perfect. I've imported a couple CA cars to IA and I'm always amazed at the perfection remaining in the car.

I don't miss the other people trying to destroy my perfect car with their poor driving though....

+ original Hyundai filter.

Each filter came with an engine attached - original engine out with the old filter, extended warranty remanufactured one with the new one (i guess it's reman not new, didn't have the time to check the doc, had to drive to my local Valvoline to get the dealer special out. TSB states fill with full synthetic. Not in my house!).

So yes, technically what went out was the new dose of dealer special with 10 miles on it.
