Post your latest oil change

Did you find the VRP in Canada or did you cross over into the US to buy it? It’s not in Southern Ontario yet but I picked some up myself on a cross border shopping trip to Niagara Falls NY
Hey there. Neither the oil or filter is available in Canada. Had to go over the line. I had picked up some 0W-20 a few months ago, but realized I needed some 5W-30 for the ladies car. Thought it’d be the best test for it.

Hopefully they start selling it in Canada soon, although even if they don’t, I go across the border every 4-6 weeks. I have bought a lot of oil in the US over the years! Especially back in the day when Walmart was selling M1 jugs for $22 😎

Out: Castrol Edge LL IV 0W-20, OEM cartridge filter 05L 115 562 A
In: Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0W-20 5.5 l (5.8 qt), OEM cartridge filter 05L 115 562 A, new oil drain plug seal

2011 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L

~170k miles

Out/In:

Havoline Pro DS 5W-30 / Toyota Denso YZZD3

I liked this smart change box and combo the last go-round so I went back to the well. Book says 5.5 quarts with filter - I’ve always found 5.8-6 gets you to the top of the dip stick.

Why on earth would they print Lifelong on that box...just begging for a lawyer to contend that "my client never changed their oil because xyz company clearly stated it was a lifelong fluid"

Yep!
With Korean stuff that consumes, smokes or is gas diluted, stay far away from 8-9csts virgin and begin with 12. Don't be afraid to use 14csts, unless you live in the coldest regions.

Keep those OCIs short at Severe Service recommendations and never let the dipstick oil level below a half-quart low.

Junk engine? Because that car only made it to 265,000 miles? The hand-wringing over H/K vehicles on this forum is epic. . . .

Which vehicle? What year? What driving habits?
Also, I'm talking about most - those that lack doing maintenance - those using semi-syn 5w20 between 2012-2020.
Where did I say 100% failures?.... or 90%..... or 80%..... I didn't mention a percentage and that's because it's impossible to gauge one. Many are still on the road and haven't even reached 80k...... the mileage when most concerns exist with no maintenance owners.

But if you feel all this Hyunkia engines aren't junk, than you haven't been keeping up with the failed engine stockpiles behind dealerships. There are three dealerships here....... within 15 miles North - South - West. I can't name East, because of a pond called a Great Lake. But there may a few there also, driven off the shores or ferry boat, by a disgruntled Hyunkia owner.

My wife's 2020 Kia 2.0 MPI ticks, clatters and chatters on two of the last three oil changes (Quaker State Euro 5w40 / Amsoil Euro 0w30). What's quietest so far has been 75% Castrol Euro 5w40 and 25% Castrol Edge EP 5w20. Her engine finally sounds normal again.

Looking forward to trying HPL around September.

I may have to ship that to you… been traveling a lot for work lately and my filter cutter went AWOL a while back. I’ve got a few to go through, but yes the 23k Endurance should be interesting. It had HPL PCEO for the first ~7500 miles and No VII Euro for another 15,912 miles.

Wait til’ mid August when I’ll be back home. Stupid mail can’t even get forwarding right.

2014 Chrysler Town and Country

I had to change the oil cooler, so I also changed the oil. I used the Dorman Aluminum replacement with Mopar seals.

I emptied the radiator and replaced the coolant with new.

In and Out:
5 Quarts Valvoline Max-Life 5w-30 and 1 quart Supertech 5w-30 5000 mile oil

Filter: what came with the Dorman unit. It looks like a Fram.

4973 miles on the oil. Early, but it was convenient.
