Post your latest oil change

Forgive me BITOG for I have sinned. ;)

I pumped out ~3.5 quarts of 5w-20 Valvoline Modern Engine from the wife's Prius with the Mityvac and poured in the same which is nearly the last of the Autozone clearance oil I got a few years ago... BUT, I didn't swap the Mobile 1 oil filter which has about 8K miles on it.
?

Hmm, too many choices….but went with M1 EP 0W20.

2012 Civic 1.8, 119,759

Out: M1 EP 0W20, Honda oil filter, 6300 miles
In: M1 EP 0W20, Fram Ultra

2012 Honda Fit, 27,000 miles

Out: Whatever unknown oil the Subaru dealer where I bought it put in it, and their Car Quest filter.
In: Quaker State 0W20 synthetic and a Super Tech filter.

The dealer tech must've used an impact to tighten the drain plug, as I had to use a long breaker bar to bust it loose. The aluminum crush washer was flattened to the point that it wouldn't come off past the threads, so I had to nip away at it with diagonal cutters to get it off. The oil filter is mounted to the side of the oil pan, and of course makes a mess when it is removed. Of course it was too tight also so I had to try three different filter wrenches before I found one that was small enough. But my favorite part was the fill opening on the valve cover.... It's partially blocked by the wiper cowl, so I had to use one of those tall narrow funnels to fill it. And as it turns out, there is a plastic screen below the fill cap which prevents the funnel from sitting there without having to hold it. When I accidently raised the funnel a little a couple times, oil spilled out and all over the little channel molded into the valve cover and dribbled down onto the cylinder head. Such a mess.

Know of your O.C. headache . Have the '13 . Fitting isn't it ? The title FIT applies in so many ways . Best application for the name FIT is the versatility with split fold down / up ( magic seats ) and front passenger side that can be laid flat as well . Remove headrest if needed . One the best small hatchbacks of all time for roominess / flexability . Makes it difficult to part with it . Has averaged 36 m.p.g. since purchased new in '13 (?) . Was under $16,000 .

My old 2004 Subaru Forester (son’s car)

@ 163500 miles

Out SuperTech synthetic 5W30 HM
and Fram TG 6607

In went 3 quarts Mobil 1 5W40 Euro and 1 quart Mobil 1 5W30 with another Fram TG6607.

Just changed the plugs, wires, and ignition coil pack too. Ready for the race track! Not
Any specific reason you use the 6607 size and not the slightly larger 7317 or much larger 3593A? Forester exhaust is much friendlier than Impreza (Red Cross is BIG MAD because I donate blood to the heat shields frequently and not to them) and on my ‘01 Forester I could have easily put a filter twice as big on it, if they made one. Just wondering 👍🏻

I think the 3593A is actually discontinued now, Meijer just got rid of all of them here, Walmart had gotten rid of them in store a few years ago and now they're ridiculously expensive on their website as if they're just selling of the end of the stock at a higher price, Honestly I don't know why the 9688 and 3593A ever existed as seperate SKUs the extra 3/10th of an inch doesn't really make any difference.

Out with the 3590 mile Napa Platinum and EuroL Pennzoil 5w30. This run had more magnet buildup than the previous 5w40. 5w40 repeatedly keeps the drain plug magnet cleaner than API and Euro 5w30's.

Oh well, needed to clear the shelf of years of leftovers.

In with leftover ounces, pints, 1/2 pints.... and a couple full quarts along with an MP9688 filter for this 2.4GDI theta2. With the Sportage on ramps, I let the oil pan and filter mount drain for about an hour. This way, almost 6 quarts are needed for a refill.

Couple ounces of Shell X100 zddp additive... 12 ounce can treat 5 quarts. Had some from clearance long ago and added an ounce to every 5 quart jug.

About 10 ounces of leftover Lubegard Biotech. ~4 ounces were used to top off for oil consumption 1/2 way thru interval and no consumption since.

The SRT old/new 0w40's were almost full.

The 10w30 was about 1/3 full.
The 10w40 and 0w30 were 1/2 full.

And, not pictured, is about 1/2 of an ol' quart of Euro Pennzoil 0w40 in order to bring the dipstick to the optimal full level

General question: are you aware that the BioTech has the viscosity of a VERY thin Xw20? I’ve no comment on its use because I’ve tried it in the past (my engine didn’t blow up, but there were also no measurable differences in UOA wear metals, only moly & phosphorus) but decided on leaving it on Amazon’s shelves once a certain board sponsor came along. I assume your engine takes an Xw20, but using a good hit of LGBT with 30wt oils won’t leave you with a 30wt. 👍🏻

Hmm. I go to the same Meijer (on McGalliard, right?) but it’s been awhile. Rural King has some still as I picked up two about 3 weeks ago? The length is not much bigger, agree, but with the added diameter over the 6607/7317/7712 sizes there is a fairly significant difference in total media area.

I know Meijer got rid of them because I cleaned out what they had at $4.39/ea, I got 6 of them there, one had been on the shelf so long it was actually a Dual-layer Extended Gaurd from before they rebranded them to Ultra, I was in Anderson a few days after that and they were mostly cleaned out there was one on the shelf that someone had broke the seal on and I bought the other one which was an Extended Gaurd that was old enough that they were still shrink wrapping the box but it was new enough to be dual layer so from around 2009-2010. I've looked since and all the PH3593As and TG3593As are gone from the shelves now and they had probably a good dozen of each.

Its a 20 grade and not 'very' thin. Just thin. The engine recommends 5w20. I don't waste any products purchased and have to use them up eventually. UOA's show metals. Source is unknown and not necessarily 'wear'. Most of the oil in the engine is leftover 40 grade. Not worried about leftover lubegard, shell, or other products added to oil, especially if HyundaiKia is OK with fuel dropping the 40 grade to a 20 anyway during the run.
