post your latest differential fluid change

2003 GMC 2500HD Duramax 4X4, 210,453 miles,, rear differential today. Out Mobil 1 75W90, in Valvoline Full Synthetic 75W90. Drained and filled 4 quarts. I don't remember when I changed it last, maybe around 125K? But boy, I could not believe how clean the Mobil 1 looked. Almost nothing on the magnetic plug. Almost aborted the drain when I saw how clean it was. No sparkles, like I see in pictures and YouTube videos.

Did the old 2017 Ram 3500 with the 11.5 AAM. Out was Co-op Gear Oil SL, group 4 based 80w140. In went the same. 84,000km on this run. Essentially nothing on the magnet. The oil was dark but nowhere near black.

I'm almost done the 20L pail I bought in around 2014. Should be enough left to do the stupid PTU on the Ford Flex....

Now that the weather has warmed up, my shifting is much improved over the stock fluid using the Gear 300; however, the cold-weather shifting - << freezing - was still just as bad. I've heard people say, at least for the STI's, that RL NS gear oil is the bees knees. Have you considered this as a good GF-5 gear oil for your S4? Also, did you notice any change after switching to Motul?
I put recently Motul Gear Power 75W80 in BMW. Phenomenal fluid so far. Shifts in morning (50’s) better than HPL MTL 75W I dumped.
Will see winter, but so far, best shifting in BMW I ever had, and that includes Redline D4 which is darling among E90 owners.

Did front and rear on my 2008 ML320 with 202k miles.

Fluid was surprisingly clean and clarity was good.

Plugs aren’t magnetic but they held some dirt:

Never used bagged fluid - I ran Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-85, but I had an old quart of SVG 75w-90 so I blended that into the rear differential since that one gets more load and torque.

They work decently, but the caps tend to want to unscrew.

I was surprised how clear the 75w-85 is.

How long was the drain interval?

I don’t recall. It’s in the receipt pile I have from the vehicle. It wasn’t yesterday, but wasn’t never ;) I think there were at least two changes I saw.

I like to baseline my fluids when I get a vehicle, and I recall it was far enough ago that I added it to my to do list that I’ve been slowly working through.

I baseline all fluids with a new car too.

Rear Diff-Out- Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90
In- Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90
39,655 miles, fluid looked very clean

PTU-Out- MacMillan Oil 75W-140
In- Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140
9,359 miles, fluid looked very was clean, as it should be at that mileage.

Originally had Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140 in the PTU but due to the transmission rebuilding the PTU fluid was changed and the rebuilder used the MacMillan Oil product. I wanted to go back to Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140. I've been changing the PTU with the Amsoil at around a 25,000 mile intervals. The only metal stuck to the magnet was with the factory fluid change at 10,000 miles and the follow up change at 20,000 miles, both used Motorcraft 75W-140. Once I started using the Amsoil SVG there was no build on the magnet. Since this PTU holds more fluid than the one in the 3.5 and it's not baked by heat like the 3.5 I'll most likely be increasing the mileage fluid change interval since it's good at 25,000 mile intervals now.

1998 dodge 2500 5.9 diesel
498500kms , far as i can tell original fill.
about 1.5 liters of black tar came out.
4 liters chevron 75w90 gear oil back in

2010 Silverado with 200,000 miles.

Out: Unknown fluid shop used when changing axle seals 5 years and 50,000 miles ago.

In: 2-1/2 quarts of Mobil 1 75W90.

Re-used the rubber gasket the shop used.

Rookie Mistake: I didn’t know the shop used a rubber gasket. It came off too easy resulting in a cascade and resulting splash of used diff fluid into the pan. Glad I had a large piece of cardboard under the truck. The two magnets have very little fuzz on them.

Re-used the gasket and torqued to 15 ft-lb.
