Post your last tire/wheel purchase

Saw the Black Friday Walmart tire post here and decided to order 4 to have as spares for the RAV4. I already purchased the Yokohama ones from work on Friday and putting them on tomorrow but also picked up these. For $384 out the door can’t beat that for name brand tires as much as I despise Goodyear you can’t ever have too many spare tires you just never know. If anything these will be my next set after the Yokohama. Mom also ordered her a set when I told her about them.

I ordered a set of Yokohama Geolander CV G058 today from work. $614 out the door with my employee price we get them for dealership cost + 10%. The tires on the RAV4 two of them are cheap $63 a piece tires with 9/32nds and do awful in the rain and the back two are factory tires and cord has began to poke thru on the inner edges so I decided to buy all 4 because the cheap tires are awful. I was torn on what to get because they had so many good and highly rated choices. My dad told me I’m going to regret my decision because Yokohama sucks and I should never buy anything but Michelin. I told him don’t be negative as he said that about my Continental on my Escape then loved them.

It was a hard choice because there were so many different ones and so many good ones. I asked the guy at our tire warehouse what he thought about these he said really good and he sells a lot at the public sales counter and internal counter so I went with them. He said they still don’t beat the Uniroyal sales but they are up there. The choices I narrowed it down to were the ones I bought and then Uniroyal Tiger Paw and BF Goodrich Advantage T/A. I’ve never tried Yokohama so I’m excited to try them out.

Here is my new rubber. These look great and made in a town that neighbors my work town and hometown called Salem Virginia. Very excited to install these and see how my RAV4 rides. These look like they will do very good in the rain and snow. Everyone I’ve talked too that’s used Yokohama has said nothing but good things about them except my dad he’s negative to anything except Michelin no matter how good it is.

I gave the old tires that are still on it to a coworker who is struggling and needed some tires so I told him when I remove them tonight or tomorrow he could take them and I’d help him install them too. He had purchased a set of Ironman and he was driving home and all the belts separated and they sent another defective set too that did the same thing so he wanted something else so he’s using the two 9/32nds ones on the front then he’s going to get two to replace the 4/32nds ones when needed but he is trying to make it thru the holidays with these even with the little cord poking thru. The ones he has now are Brillo pads basically.

It’s not very glamorous but I just bought a set of new takeoff Toyota 17” steelies for my RAV4 with the intention of buying a set of dedicated snow tires for winter driving. I bought them from a FB Marketplace ad and met the guy at a storage unit. He had at least two sets of them still covered in plastic. I assume he must work for the local Toyota dealership but I didn’t ask. I only paid $120 for all four and a set of Toyota wheel covers also still in the shrink wrap.

How do you not share the wheel covers? That's like a burlesque show, just enough to tease.

Hankook Kinergy PT 225/65-17H for the Mazda. Korean tire made in the USA. Last year I bought Kinergy ST made in Indonesia for the Saturn to replace Kinergy PT’s I wore out. Before that had General RT43 made in Brazil. Local shop looks messy but I get great service and prices are good. They always busy. Ever heard of Ironhead? Apparently they sell many. I think Chinese but I saw a couple sets there, made in Vietnam and Cambodia. Ain’t anything made in China anymore?

Huh, I’ve been seeing Made In The Philippines on the last few Yokohamas I’ve seen at America’s Tire and on a friend’s Frontier.

Cooper Discover All-Terrain

Been looking for some decent All-Terrain tires. Most were XL or LT in this size. (265/60-18) Seen these on Black Friday sale at Walmart. After researching they are pretty much the same as the old Cooper AT3’s. I’ve had a few sets of those over the years. Seem good so far.

Had to order a Michelin Pilot Super Sport as I installed the snows. One of rear tires had a flat piece of metal in the tread. I didn’t try to remove it as the metal was buried in the tread at a 45* angle. I replaced both real tires last spring! Argh!

Just had to purchase 1 Michelin CC2 for my wife's car. Had a big staple in the sidewall. Not happy that I had to get another tire and NOT happy that I had to replace one tire when the others have 45k on them and the car is a AWD CRV. But... I CANNOT replace the other 3 at the moment. Car has 178k miles on it.

Replaced the OEM Yokohama Avid GTs with Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3s on the Outback yesterday, and then today I had an unrepairable nail puncture in one of the Saab's General GMAX AS/07s. Fortunately General has a 12-month road hazard warranty and Discount Tire handled it without any questions or trouble (I did have to pay for the install though). One more tire than I planned on replacing this week, but it could have been worse.
