Post your dry dog food

Yes, guaranteed analysis is what it is - guaranteed Did I type something that indicated anything different?

With that said, there is NO denying that the meat going into the kibble preprocessing represents the meat that comes out as kibble. The meat is super heated to an extreme, squeezed dry of all moisture and pressed dried into kibble. With humans super extreme heated meats normally mean cancer causing chemicals as you know. Here is dog food, not only extreme heat but steamed and pressed voided of all moisture. Canned food represents the true real composition of meat and locked in minerals and vitamins.

Fresh food? Only fresh food we gave our dog was our own fruit, vegetables, fish and chicken. Every meal had rotisserie chicken sprinkled on top of canned dog food and if we ran out, we used canned fresh Alaska salmon or tuna. All human stuff. I would never give my dog dog food as labeled as "fresh food" The question would be why?

(for the chicken we would buy a couple 3 pound chickens from Sams Club or Costco. Get them home, cut them up and put them in freezer bags) In reality the fresh chicken is less expensive than the processed dog food. However this was a supplement to his regular high quality canned food. I do believe in the dog food for proper balance (mostly)

THE ONLY Purina food that I ever would feed my dog was their Beyond Organic canned food (which is actually a bargain).
Other than that my opinion of Purina is a corporation bent on convincing people to feed their dogs unnamed meat sources, corn and plant protein. I would rate car dealers on a higher scale than Purina. Except for this ONE line of products. Using phoney photos of delicious looking ingredients on their packaging. No thank you, the only product I trust is what I mentioned and rightfully so/ The beyond organic line is the only food from that company I would ever feed and its a solid product. As mentioned we rotate foods from different companies. No dogs life should be trusted to the same company and food every day of its life is my opinion.

It sounded as though you were intimating that extreme heat and pressure was a bad thing. It's pressure steam like a pressure cooker. And I don't care for Purina at all. I have a friend who is pretty high up and was referring to information he had given. Purina premium foods used to be very good but like all corporate cost decisions, they added cheaper ingredients and I won't use it.
One sad fact is that the best selling dogfood in the US is Ole Roy from Walmart. Next time you are in a Walmart look at the ingredients. Surprisingly dogs survive ok on it. But it has to have an effect on lifespan.

I think the fresh food people claim that it's the enzymes that are cooked out.

I've been near a pet food plant and boy do they stink. Made me wonder just how they tortured/processed the food.
Probably what they are doing is making animal digest. They take animal byproducts and render them down to a concentrated liquid. They spray this on the dry kibble for flavor to entice the animal to eat it. It's very tasty to them.

It is a bad thing, extreme heat and pressure. No, not like a pressure cooker. A pressure cooker seals in nutrients much like a can it remains in liquid form too..

Agree on Ole Roy and many others including Purina except for their Beyond Organic.
However the Whole Dog Journal, with no agenda highlights these things in a year long subscription, there is no access however without paying.

Here is a self serving free link for fresh food from another source. They leave out canned though.

Just so you know Im not debating with you only what I did and why. Super cooking food even for humans isnt good but would we survive a healthy life eating the human form of kibble everyday? I dont think so.
Would we have a better chance eating a human form of canned food everyday? yes

and is fresh best? Yes but not fresh (to me) labeled as fresh dog food.

All good, just discussing as always. :)

I noticed dog food like all other things is going up in price. Here is a couple of shots of the ingredients and nutrition details of IAMS adult dog food. I know some folks don’t like the idea of grains in dog food but my Vet was for it and my Chocolate Lab ate it for all of her 14 years with no issues. What experiences have you had with dry dog food?

There is a publication that is all about dogs, their health and their foods. Used to be every February they had a "Best Dry Dog Foods List". I think a one-year subscription was only $20.00. They also sell back issues separately. Here is their website. https://www.whole-dog-journal.com/

Seems like there are myriad of boutique dog foods out there. Was in the dog salon and they have specialty food I have never heard of. They were recommending one to a customer who had a dog with liver problems.

Xena, our older dane, is on Purina pro plan complete. Mixed with some wet food and chicken, 6 cups a day. She had been on purina sport 30/20 when we first got her as she was about 30 pounds under weight.

Was she under weight from neglect or health problems? Our in-laws got a rescue beagle with digestive issues and several times people called animal control on them cause it was so skinny. They finally got some meat in her bones when they tried some kind of enzyme powder. She lived to 21.

Kind of a combo, she'd been adopted into a home with another great dane. Her initial meeting that dog had been ok, but then her new owner never got back when the shelter followed up, and the dogs were not getting along, culminating in a pretty bad fight that sent both dogs to vets, Xena returned to the shelter after a lengthy stay at the vet. Shed been down around 100 lbs, probably because of stress at that home and subsequent time at the vet.
Thankfully, she's come out of that and isn't dog aggressive. My wife and I have been bringing her to training weekly for rally, no problem with other dogs being close.
She's a sweetie, gentle and good natured, bit shy around men though.
Having had giant dogs for a long while, I can't imagine the ignorance and irresponsibly that let Xena get to that point. They may be mans best friend, but we aren't always theirs.

A co-worker feeds his pup raw food. He makes his own by taking road-kill deer and organs given to him by others and this last time he mixed in some fresh vegetables/fruit. My concern would be if the dog is getting the required nutrients. He says in the wild they mainly eat meat, so he has no issues feeding her a meat only diet.

Purina One ingredients: Chicken, Rice Flour, Corn Protein Meal, Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal , Whole Grain Wheat, Soybean Meal, Beef Fat Preserved With Mixed-Tocopherols, etc.

That is why I quit buying Purina brand pet foods almost 40 years ago.
The insutability of corn and other grains for dogs is overstated by popular culture. Some corn and soy content is usually well tolerated by most dogs if in moderation.
