Noticeable drop I havent been able to pinpoint. My best guess is the rather sudden decline in temperature.

On current driver: 1993 Legacy AT 2.2 litre 4WD

City: ~ roughly 20 mpg

Highway: ~ 29 mpg

I fueled up last week from a trip into NYC, and back to Rochester. Almost all Freeway (except maybe 60 miles between NYC and Rochester city driving). The old automatic when she locks up into solid gear (generally at over 50 mph) just needs fuel sipping power to cruise on the freeway.

580 miles from two tanks totaling 19.8 gal:

29.3 mpg Highway

(Fuel used was the cheapest, Sunoco and Red Apple, labeled 10% ethanol but I doubt the gas stations actually put that max amount in given the corn shortage and how expensive ethanol must be now.)

The Legacy gets about 20% worse city mpg than my 1995 Impreza, but slightly better Freeway mileage. Even though a good bit bigger, she's more aerodynamic, and revs a bit lower, probably even after adjusting for larger engine displacement---in terms of rate of volume (2.2 versus 1.8 L). The larger mass and larger engine displacement only significantly negatively affects city mpg's.

1997 MB E320 (3.2L L6) 213k miles.
City = 20 mpg.
Highway = 28-29 mpg.
Always using premium (91+ octane) fuel. I have tried 87 and 89 octane previously in long distance trips, with 87 octane I lost about 1-2 mpg highway and with 89 I lost 3mpg highway. This way I can justify using premium, even though the manufacturer requires only premium in this car.

I *think* New England has now gone with the winter mix :-( The mileage has dropped like clock work for me.

2011 base model FIT w/ 5 speed auto :

Display : 37.7 ( overall m.p.g. )
Calculated : 38.051 ( 340.9 mis./ 8.959 gals. )

I sold my last geo metro and bought a 2011 Hyundai Accent 5-speed.

I only have 1,000 mile on it but my calibrated ultraguage is
showing 36 mgp in town and 42 mpg on the highway at 65mph.

'08 bas model YARIS sedan w/ 4 speed auto :

Eco-Meter : 40.0 ( set @ 95 )
Calculated: 41.05 ( 411.7 mis. / 10.029 gals @ 1 click of nozzle )

Reset ECO to 96 since reading low , see how that works . Gas was VALERO 87 w/ E10 and tires set @ 37 since the big swings of the temps as of recent .

Last tank was 46.7 mpg on the Prius. Tires were set at 35/33 (factory settings) and it was mostly highway driving, with about 20% of it being hilly.

EPA is 48 mpg highway so I'm doing OK I guess.

At last fills:
1970 Chrysler Newport- 8mpg all city
1962 Buick LeSabre- 16mpg combined 90% highway
1978 Ford Granada- 22mpg 80% highway

Last week with a trailer on the highway in the fx:
tank 1, 11.4
Tank 2 11.1
Tank 3 11.9
Tank 4 11.0
Tank 5 11.5
Tank 6 12
Tank 7 11.4

What was interesting is that climbing to 7,000 feet didn't affect mileage, I guess
because we went down 7,000 feet shortly after.

It was pretty lame having to stop for gas just over every 200 miles.

Don't know small tanks can have a advantage.. pee breaks! While sometimes I hate the small tank in the Escape on long trips with the kids not much of a issue since we have to stop anways.

2007 Acura MDX rated 15MPGcity/20MPG higway

I am managing 20MPG via trip computer over 2500 miles. 50/50 mix.

TO:440Magnum you know you got a point. i might have something wrong. i think ill check the speedometer. that sounds right ill bet something is wrong. it just doesnt seam right to get better mpg with a lower gear. will post how it checks out.

08/29/11 - 10/18/11
