Doug,
I was hoping you would post on this subject. Thank You for your valuable experience and sharing it with us.

omg, say it isn't so!!!

I was wondering what, if any, effect coolant would have on these composite parts, and if there is an issues akin to IMG failure lurking.

The only way to forensically determine if the composite parts overheated is to run X-ray diffration studies and compare it with a control sample. Heat will crystallize polymer and this crystallization will be revealed during study. This is how we approach these issues.

My thing is, Corvettes go faster than Porsches.

My Uncle also relayed a similar "I thought i was going to die, took turn going 'like 70' and it just hugged it" in a Stingray Corvette. Not sure the year or package, but i suspect lower Tire Pressure, nice sticky tires, and magical things can happen along with Suspension.

As to Oil, the grade 10W-60 comes to mind. For Porsche.

Not knocking Porsche, at all.. But all its Turbos do NOT beat the Displacement of many a Vette.

Not knocking Chevy, at all...But all of its displacement does not ncessarily beat all of the turbos of a Porsche.

Corvette: 6.0L @400hp/424lb. ft.

Porsche 997 GT2: 3.6L @523hp/502lb. ft.

no use in having a big heavy engine when you can get the same power out of less.

Hi,
AJ - Sudden failures like the Intermediate Shaft in the M96 are impossible to detect in advance. The IS failures have been sudden and unpredictable

Coolant ingress creates a wide range of problems as most know on here. Typically the entry of coolant is not sudden. Loss of coolant through a water pump failure is usually very quick and undectable via the temperature gauge until damage has commenced

If the oil level rises due to coolant ingress this can/may be detected (by the wise) via the oil level gauge which reads automaticaly with a cold engine start and after refuelling

Indeed. Always appreciated.

Ive watched my Street after 11PM, and plenty of "Across America: Super Speeders" DVDs.

Porsche gets 0wned.

From Memory: 1991 C4 Corvette wth "Nos" and Supercharger, something about 427ci (?? Not up on it entirely) vs Twin-Turbo Green 993 with Boost.... Id have to watch the video again, but they were in Staten Island. Corvette DID Blow up, but After the race, so it didnt count.

Good race.

I was more impressed by the New 2007 Vette, a Z06 with 505HP no mods, out-muscling the Lamborghini Gallardo, which, though not a Porsche, it could also have likely done to a Porsche.

Another example, at Drag strip: Porsche 996 "Stage 5" Turbo: 2nd Place.
Lingenfelter Corvette of some kind or another: First Place.
And STILL was faster, only by a nose, than the Porsche.

I never said i didnt like Porsche, and i say again: No Disrespect to Porsche. I also find it Fascinating how much porsche can do with their Engines, however Corvettes usually prove that "There Is No Replacement for Displacement."

They also cost half as much.

On the Corvette vs. European super car comparison (or Nissan GTR), Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo and Maserati fans weep every time they watch the ZR1 set this street car record at Nurburgring....with an engineer (not Michael Schumacher) at the helm.

The notion Corvettes cannot handle is a myth.

I was pretty excited to watch that but I got a bass solo instead haha.

Yes Gary that's it. Thanks!

And just when you thought GM was done...here's a CTS-V outdoing an M5 and every other 4 door street car in the world.

Sorry Unearthed...I must've forgotten to cut the text prior to pasting it.

The driver did get a workout but I did see a video showing a Mercedes sport car ($130k+ 500 series SLK I think) where the driver was similarly busy and still was bested by the Vette by a considerable margin.

The new 911 GT2 RS runs around the ring in 7:18, which makes all the GM products (and past 911s) look slow! I'll take any of them you want to give me, though.

Well, at 250 grand it should. And it's not available yet so they don't have that record until it is (production street car).

And the point is a Corvette broke the record formerly held by a Ferrari Enzo (how they call that a production car is a bit iffy), which eliminates this notion Corvettes are only good in a straight line (for the life of me I can't understand why that's often the perception).

Soon to be posted is how the Corvette sports leaf springs from a horse drawn wagon (albeit they are made from advanced materials) and how coil springs are advanced technology.

Oh, absolutely. I'm a VW/Audi/Porsche guy, but my ultimate garage would have a Vette in it, too. They're fun cars, no doubt about it. Anyone who tells you they can't run is clueless!
