Poor timing on my part. Lesson learned.

Right now I am sans-car due to some poor timing (or perhaps good luck) with selling my S4. I had planned to get the new car right before the Audi sold, but due to some really terrible dealer salespeople I didn't get anything. The Audi sold REALLY fast -- first guy to come see it gave me asking price, and didn't even want the snow tires I would've included on a separate set of wheels.

So yesterday the guy took possession of the Audi and now I am without any transportation. At least I have a ton of Hertz points saved up. Oops.

So, life lesson: don't sell your only car until you get the new one, unless you want to walk everywhere or rent something.

I don't think he wants you to feel sorry for him. He's just recounting a lesson he learned.

Personally I would have NEVER sold a 2005 Audi S4 in great condition. It's probably a better drive than most new things you can buy at a much higher price now, and they were pretty reliable too. I think he should have held on to it.

Hang in there Dan. Your new wheels can't be too far away now. Think of this way, if you had gotten it today or yesterday, it may have gotten messed up in this crazy storm that passed through today.

I don't want you to feel sorry for me. Any time I sell a car there is always a slight sense of regret as I know I'll miss it. I still miss my old Ford Contour, my Integra, my Mazdaspeed3, and the S2000. All were great cars. It was sad to see the S4 go but the guy was pretty excited to get it, and I'm sure he'll take good care of it. I still talk to the guy who bought my Integra many years ago, and he's still bombing around in it!


Pete, did you guys lose power? I did not but I heard winds were over 75mph in some places.

Thankfully we did not lose power, but tree branches were coming down left right and center. 80 mph winds were reported near me.

I have made some mistakes when it comes to buying cars, don't get me wrong. I bought an S2000 on a bit of an impulse. I sold it in less than a year. Fun and fast, but it has no room for anything or anyone, and was unpleasant in the winter.

Fortunately I've learned from all of them and haven't repeated any.

I walked down the road for an errand a while ago and there were a lot of BIG branches snapped like toothpicks. Sort of depressing to see those old trees get damaged like that.

I have enjoyed my rental time between vehicles.

I get a great rate thru the company I contract with. Honestly sometimes the $180/month seems more appealing than buying my own.

Agreed, but sadly there are very few tire scorchers available to rent.

We also have services like Zipcar and iGoCar around here for hourly rentals. They have some Minis, BMWs, and Audis for a few bucks more.

The car may be better in his garage than in dealer lot with no protection. At least that would be my case. I love to get a new car soon but won't because I like driving older cars for the stress free of owning them. I do have 2 good cars though, 92 Corolla and 02 Accord. My Bronco has a broken door lock that I am too unmotivated to fix because I know it would need new tires and such to pass inspection. I am going to fix the lock and keep it as an emergency vehicle though as it runs fine and I'll plow through snow to get somewhere in emergency without tag if I have to. It takes less than 5 mins to put it on insurance and I'll do that if some nut storms hit and I need to get out of Dodge.
