Poly Ether Amines--Best Bang for your buck?

I just finished using 2 bottles of SI-1 to treat 3 consecutive tankfuls of gas and the pinging is gone, gone, gone. One full bottle into the first tank (17 Gal capacity or 64 liters), then 1/2 bottle at fill-up(about 12 gallons or 48 liters each time) during the next two fillups. Prior to this it was getting to the point where only 91 octane or greater would elminate the pinging. The pinging was actually gone after the first tankful with SI-1.

And let me add that running a few dozen tankfuls of Top Tier gas did absolutely nothing for the pinging problem. Zero. In fact, it may have made it worse. It got steadily worse while using Top Tier gasoline.

Radio show mechanic I used to listen to was pretty sold on the Redline product. Always told people to change their fuel filter shortly after using it though, which sort of makes sense.

Top tier gasoline won't cause deposits, they were already there. I would look at the state of your EGR valve and if it needs to be cleaned out.

Maybe perhaps a tuneup as well.

My experience says otherwise. Redline has an interesting White Paper that also indicates that gasoline detergents can increase intake valve deposits (while keeping injectors clean).

Tune up ? There's nothing left to tune-up anymore. The plugs and air filter are only a few months old. Everything else is run by the ECU (PCM).

Now the EGR valve and it's supply/return tubes - that's something I haven't looked at in quite a while. There are no codes (or pending codes) for the EGR. But the tubes certainly could be plugged up. Good point Blazer.

I think you are blaming the last thing used which in this case is NOT what caused the deposits in the first place.

Top tier gas doesn't just include injector cleaners, the detergents are not focused for that role.

Either way, top tier gas should not be avoided because an injector cleaner white paper says so. Obviously the white paper will be a little biased and you won't see them saying "sure, top tier gas has everything you need, you don't need our product"....

BTW, I am a firm believer in the redline cleaner and use it religiously so don't think i have a problem with it, I really love it and have had great results.

It is just when you said you had pinging and then blame the last couple tanks for making it worse just doesn't make sense.

Seeing the EGR controls pinging i would definitely clean it and get it completely cleaned out and you might see a difference.

Blazer, I didn't mean to imply that it was the last few tanks of TT gas that made things worse. All I can report is that I consistently starting using TT gas around Sept or Oct of 2006, and by March of 2007 the problem was worse than it was 6 or 7 months earlier. Then the problem is gone (apparently - hopefully) after 3 tanks treated with Redline. I guess that's the long and short of it.
