Careful, this sounds like we're ascribing some blame to the victim. If an officer of the law were giving me commands in a language that I didn't understand, it would be difficult to comply. Did he say, "show me your hands?" In which case, I move, or did he say' "don't move"?

This guy was walking along the sidewalk with his cellphone, eyeballing the neighborhood, as I would probably do were I in his situation....I'm an observant person, I survey my surroundings....

That's suspicious enough to call the cops?

the problem is with the stupid overzealous people who called caps on this poor guy.
the same thing happened to my wife once. she was doing her usual everyday morning walks around the neighborhood when some idiot called cops and reported "suspicious behavior" on her. We lived there for over 10 years when that happened.

I don't disagree, however there must be something more with your wife on her walk, or as it sometimes is your neighbors have a personal dislike for her?

You can bet that in a truly rude and unprofessional world the news would be more focused on the positive. Imagine: "Here is Brian Williams with news from Manhattan Island, where earlier today a policeman helped an old lady cross the street instead of beating her up for impeding traffic.

Or "Today Firefighters helped set out a blaze instead of spraying gasoline from their hoses". Or "Doctors and nurses in ER saved a life instead of serial killer doctor injected poison in patient at ER with bone injury". Or "Librarian tears up whole library".

Before it was "Hands Up Dont Shoot", I guess soon it will be "No English Dont Shoot"(or kick or punch or behave like an immature middle school bully with an iq of a kindergartner).

I hope you aren't comparing poor Mr. Patel (who does seem to be an innocent victim) to the THUG from Ferguson Mo.

People can just be plain insane at times too. (Not your wife.. the neighbors of course.

I saw the video. The man was handcuffed and not resisting, and the cop dropped him to the ground. Then the cop and another tried to make him stand up. But it is clear to see that he had been paralyzed.

It was all about bullying an older person.

So this 57 year old Indian guy, a guest in our country who had been here to visit his relatives, is now maimed because the cop thought that the color of his skin and the fact that he spoke no English was threatening. The man has needed surgery now to repair crushed vertebrae, will never recover, and will need lifetime, around-the-clock care to do basic bodily functions, all for the offense of being a brown-skinned, older man, walking in the neighborhood where his son lives.

The man has what attorneys in the personal injury realm call catastrophic injuries. The millions to take care of him will come out of taxpayer pockets. You can bet your hind ends that this man will not be sent back to India.

The man will live in a paralyzed state for maybe thirty more years.

At least the cop was fired. But there is a horrific problem with police brutality in the USA, and nothing proves it better than that video.

You people who think the cop did nothing wrong should be ashamed of yourselves. Frankly, if I said to you all what I think of you, I would likely be banned from this forum. You guys make me ashamed to be an American.

Dnewton3,

What do you think about the police officer involved in this incident had been fired, arrested and will be charged with assault ? Did justice prevail or unjust ?

One thing bothers me a little that is local Police Chief announced that Police Officer would be fired only after the victim filed a lawsuit. Don't they have internal investigation and take appropriate action independent of a lawsuit was filled by victim or not, or they would sweep the problem under a rug if no lawsuit was filled ?

It sure seems like he was looking for his son's house, but spoke little English; seems he was unfamiliar with this country.

He got beat up.

Let's hear how we will... "spin" this. This seems to be happening every week now.

Yet when folks like you who play armchair quarterback are actually faced with what law enforcement officers deal with, the perspective usually changes.

Oh, you are a cop now, too?

I never said I was. Please stop, think, and try to comprehend what you're reading.

[edited out unnecessary comments]

But back to the main point, the guy was told to get his hands out of his pockets, and did not comply. It doesn't matter how innocent that subject looked anyone could have a gun and shoot the officer.
Lack of understanding of English, and the understanding of the law is not an excuse.

dnewton3 seems suspiciously absent from this thread...

Lack of general common sense in these so called caretakers and protectors of the community (cops) is also not an excuse to kill or injure to kill or injure to disable for lifetime an "excuse".
If you are so scared on your high risk job that you signed up for voluntarily then maybe you should be a postman or a librarian. Even that has some risks though.

So you are blaming the victim and defense the aggressor now ?

If the Police Officer didn't do anything wrong then why he was fired, arrested and charged with third degree assault ?

There are millions visitors to America each year, many of them don't speak English, should they receive hash treatments every time they interact with Police ?

"It appears in the video Patel already has his hands cuffed behind his back when officer Eric Parker body slams Patel into the ground."

The situation has changed drastically since decades ago,
and the officers have a right to protect themselves.
I figure you are so fearless you must be a police officer too. LOL

The main reason they are so quick to fire those officers today is because they are afraid of ANY lawsuit, even if the actions were
legal and justified, because it can cost a fortune even if it turns out the officer is innocent of any wrong doing.

Nonsense. Firing the officer in such circumstances does not shield the police dept from a lawsuit.

Very well then it should be easy to prove. Where can I find these alleged documents ?

Of course not, but it gives the possibility that the city gov't could possibly settle without the
huge expenses if they settle out of court.

Every Indian that applies for a SBA loan will receive it.

Also it is true that many of the businesses are
money laundering operations funded by organized crime groups, so in a sense the syndicate funds them and brings them in to become citizens.

Are you saying that every Indian is smart enough to fill out the SBA application correctly, but the same cannot be said about every American?

Essentially, yes.
