Some might say it's too early for another pup, but I've learned that we don't get to choose the time, or the pup. Not to get all otherworldly or anything, but I truly believe that God delivers a dog that needs a good, loving home to those that have one to give. Guess it was our turn. Again.

Meet Ernie (he is on the left). He was in the local shelter for over a month before going to a foster for the last few weeks. Saw his picture on the website and couldn't get in touch with his foster quick enough. They brought him over this morning to meet Luna and when he walked in the house, she had her hackles up. A few minutes of nose to nose and she warmed a bit.

Then the magic happened. Let them both outside and they couldn't stop running after each other for almost a half hour. When they finally stopped, they both lay next to each other on the deck, panting, tongues hanging out. Brought some water out and Ernie got up to get a drink. Luna followed right alongside and both started drinking together at the same time. After they finished, Luna started licking Ernie's face. When I saw Ernie actually smile, I knew he was ours.

He has Simon's gentle spirit, but doesn't hesitate to play and have a good time. He is a big, goofy lug and I can tell he will like his naps. I can almost hear Simon give his approval and tell Luna to have fun with her new playmate. She has been quite lonely without another fury friend to pal around with, and I could see she heard Simon's encouragement. She seems really happy again. Now, to teach him to ride on the golf cart.

That's great! Let's see a photo of him standing with his ears natural. What's he weigh?

Pro trainer tip for everyone- Let dogs meet on neutral ground not on one of the dog's territory. Bring dog out of the house and let them meet on the front yard or sidewalk or wherever. Don't let them go nose to nose right off that's a measuring posture. Best thing ever is for 2 people to take strange dogs for a walk around the block keeping them apart as they check each other out and get a sniff. By the time you get back they've relaxed and going onto the home dog's turf isn't a tense situation. We do it with every foster dog and it's almost magical.

Congratulations! Everybody wins!

My boxer, Beauregard, died many years ago. Got him at six weeks old and he was past fifteen years old when he died. Best dog ever.

In 2018, our German Shepherd Dog, Jack, turned one and we decided to get him a playmate. Found the most loving dog at a local shelter... a pit female bull. Never in my life would I have thought I'd have a pit bull in my home. Your saying "I truly believe that God delivers a dog that needs a good, loving home to those that have one to give" is exactly our experience.

The shelter was calling her Hazel, but we changed her name to... Jill.

I'll have to wait until he has them perked up, he always seems to have them down, smiling, and wagging his tail. Right now he is a little over 2 years old and 57lbs., but his paws say he should fill out to around 70lbs. Foster said at the shelter he seemed rather underweight and probably wasn't fed like he should have been.

I agree with the meeting protocol, but my wife opened the door before I could come out of the garage. Fortunately, Luna isn't very territorial and "allowed" him on in. once they got in the back yard and were running around, it was like they were best pals. I caught them both curled up together sound asleep on the couch last night, so I think we are good to go.
