Dealer says toyota only pays those two oil changes at 10k and 20k, no matter what schedule I follow. Their words. Toyota Corp says it's legit for toyota care to cover oil change at 5k. I don't know... I can't make the dealer to use toyota care at 5k oil change in that area. not really a problem, I can pay for the 5k, and 15k. Just want to find a relatively good dealer service dept. Thanks for your comments.
On another thought, some of the older 3UR-FBE engines did require a 6mo/5K interval and I think Toyotacare did cover those until the 2/25K plan. Perhaps yours was one of those.
With our newest Toyota, it was (2) two 'Free' oil changes within the 2 year/ 25k mile window. If you aren't accruing 10k miles per year, they go by the time parameter.
They would have done the 1st oil change at 1k miles on our 4Runner, because it was at 1 year in service. I didn't want their lube jockey touching our vehicle, and stripping and/or over-tightening fasteners as they went. So I asked if they'd just give me 7 quarts of oil, and the oil filter and drain plug gasket. Since I had already paid for it in the price of the vehicle. They agreed.
They also gave me the oil and filter at just over 2k miles, before the Toyotacare 2 year window expired.
