Please list engines that are prone to piston/ring deposits, varnish, or sludge.

Acura 3.7L engine. Carboned rings, factory authorized short block or just ring replacement
Usually approaches 1 qt per 1K miles or more at approximately 60K miles

Oil(s) used:
Mobil1 5w-20 AFE
Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20
Castrol Edge 5w-20
5K intervals
No issues with mine at 164k. But I also have OCI at 3k, PCV cleaned at the same time, CRC intake and valve cleaner used every 8-10k miles. M1 ESP 0/30 previous M1 0/40. RL fuel injection cleaner every OCI. Put in with low fuel light on and 10g gas.

It’s hard to say regarding my 2017 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L Theta II DI engine as it may have multiple medical issues . As the original owner early on I used 2nd tier synthetic oils up to 5K mile OCI’s in driving conditions that would be more alligned with severe service OCI’s of 3,750 max . The key question I have is did I induce varnish , sludge and specifically piston / ring deposits with longish OCI’s and 2nd tier synthetic oils or does my Theta II have a bad engine design ? … I’ll know more after the 5th VRP OCI when I measure oil usuage using severe service OCI’s (3,500 - 3,750 miles) .

A modern engine doing that in 5k miles is mostly an engine issue, IMO. Some oils can handle it better than others. VRP may reverse this and for most in that situation likely prevent it. But it’s not the only oil capable of preventing it. The question is which oils can? This boils down to formula specific needs and not paying for the bottom barrel synthetic. Bare minimum specs with the cheapest quality ingredients may allow for this to happen, in my opinion, “meets the spec” but what’s in the oil? Not all oil plays the same. That’s why this site exists.

Toyota 2AZ-FE and 2AR-FE-stuck rings

Honda has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and extended warranties for some models (like certain 2008-2012 Accords, 2008-2013 Odysseys, 2009-2013 Pilots, and 2012-13 Insights) experiencing excessive engine oil consumption, often caused by carbon buildup on piston rings.
Would this include the 2AR-FXE, like in my wife’s NX300H?
