Wal Mart has much lower availability with Ultra than Platinum. In "oil for dummies" language, is it worth it for me to get the Ultra?

I change at 5k on a 100k 05 accord.

At 5k intervals I wouldn't even bother with a syn unless your are considering your driving conditions severe.
At that interval you are gaining nothing by using ultra over platinum.

Really you dont need either. PYB would be just fine.
But if you are paying $24 for PP, why not make it $26 for PU?
PU is an amazing oil, it exceeds PP

If your aiming for maximum cleaning, PU would surpass. Other than that I dont see any reason to run either at those miles.

Between those 2 its base stocks and add packs. Between platinum and ultra it's base stocks and I think ultra had more calcium

I'm currently testing to find out what the differences in cleaning power are between the 2. About to change PP after initial 7k OLM OCI after 70k of dino. Impressions: very quiet, smooth. Cleaning is avg, about the same as M1. PU going in, hoping it will deal with some stubborn varnish and deposits PP could not get in 1 OCI.

Quite frankly, seems like "Ultra is good for cleaning" is a much repeated BITOG matra. Varish and deposits gone in 1 OCI? Why run MMO, AutoRX, Kreen, Seafoam etc at all? Seems like some photos might be in order.

Only if your using the vehicle to deliver the mail as an independent contractor with the usps or delivering pizzas.

Im for it! You know anyone with a sludger?

I've been wanting to take pictures before switching to PU from PP but the weather has been terrible. Its either too cold, too wet, or lots of dust and sand blowing around in the shared garage. Another car goes by and I get blasted with the VC open. Maybe this weekend the weather will be better and i can do it.
