Is the only benefit that one gets from synthetic oil extended drain intervals?
I'm more concerned with engine wear due to oil shearing with using 5W20 in Florida, on both cars. Her car is definitely severe service and I drive on the Florida Speedway (err Turnpike) every day. Go 75 out there and you will be mowed down- I run around 80 MPH for 20 miles or so. When I hit the hills in the next county (don't laugh, they may not be steep but they are hills) the trans will sometimes downshift to third, bringing RPMs up to 5000-5500 until I reach the top.
Anything I can do to help these cars last is a good thing- I thought synthetic oil was helping. Am I wrong?
