Picking oil filter for severe service

I wish Donaldson made a Blue with an internal bypass filter that fit the bill. That would be the best period imo.

PG4612 is the Premium Guard equivalent to the M1-110, which they list as the same number as for the M1-108. Its height is right in between. Kinda funny.

M1-108 - 2.5625
PG4612 - 3.01
M1-110 - 3.375
AAP CC premium 84356 for a 7317 application or M1-110a.

they now have a 99% @20um but prior to that they were labeled 99% @30um. i also have a cammed LS and ran the M1 filters for almost 200k miles. have since changed to OG wire back fram titanium’s. if i ran out (never will) i would move to Carquest premiums simply out of cost and quality.

I run the taller PF61 class filter. M1-206. The FRAM PH/XG/...9837 isn't on the shelf at Walmart here. Besides, I'm leery of Fram when one killed a 5.3 because it loaded up and failed to go into bypass. Regular orange FRAM, but still.

I think I'm going to try a sleeve of Premium Guards off of amazon.

I'll report back on my findings.
To be clear, the Premium Guard Extended Life version is the one like the Carquest Premium and MicroGard Select. All rated for up to 10K miles.

There is also a lower tier Premium Guard filter.

yes, i also run a 206a sized FS-3675 on my LS.

What oil do you like in it?

I've tried Mobil 5w-30 Synthetic, 0w-40 FS, Rotella T6 5w-40, Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40, Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, QS 5w-30 Synthetic, and Valvoline R+P 5w-30.

QS Synthetic 5w-30 has given me the best results. Valvoline R+P for the past two, and it works as advertised. Close second to the QS. Probably switch back after the 3rd, plus want to see how it does in the summer heat.

Quite a few guys in my local drag race group with LS daily cars that they also drag race like the Driven oils.

I assume it's similar to the HPL BA racing oils, but I've no experience with either.

^^^ Yes, but I wouldn't go with too low efficiency filter, as the cleaning process will put lots of debris in the oil for the filter to catch.
Some lower priced filters have better efficiency, e.g. PG 4612 where lower end filter has about 3x better efficiency in micron ratings. Holding capacity will be lower thou but changing filter couple of time thru OCI may work out better.
The boy needs to realize that if he doesn't take care of the car he may not have a chance to drive to see his GF.

he definitely WANTS to take care of that car, but he's working crazy amount of hours right now, so time to maintain the vic is limited.
