Picked up non running Troy Bilt Push mower for $30

Picked up this non running troy bilt mower for $30. Unfortunately it's not self propelled. It's probably the lowest model Troy Bilt makes, model 100 I think. It has a 6.5 hp B&S engine. What do you guys think of my cleanup job and how much you think I can get for it (it's running fine now)? Also, the gas cap show 40:1 mix? Is that right or did someone put the wrong gas cap on it?

You might try $75. If you feel like re-listing over and over on Craigslist, then you could try for $100. Re-listing is free, so why not try?

I pulled the fuel bowl and cleaned it all out. The bolt was completely clogged and there was no fuel flow. I cleaned all that real good and noticed the gas coming out of the line was nearly black. I drained the gas tank completely and refilled w/ good clean gas. It was so dark I think they might have actually been running a mix in it and if so it was much higher the 40:1 anyhow.

Every B&S mower I've encountered that "can't start" always has this same exact issue with the fuel bowl bolt.

Haha the 40:1 gas cap is really funny because I can see the cap for the oil in the pictures. That's a 4 stroke engine and it runs on straight gasoline in the gas tank, and oil in the sump. It should fun fine on the oil/gas mixture but it will foul the spark plugs at an increased rate and pollute more, as well as cause some buildup in the cylinder.

It probably cost about $150 new but you did a great job restoring so maybe around $80-90ish?

Very nice. Looks new. My FIL gave me a "non-running" power washer with a 6hph B-S motor. I took the bowl off and cleaned all that nonsense out also. I use Sta-Bil now. Non-issue. He's not mechanically inclined.

Change that to fortunately. The self-propel system on most Troy-Bilts is horrible. It's unreliable, thanks in part to cheap plastic components and the stupid "gear" change feature. It can also be very difficult to repair. I can swap out a Toro FWD or RWD transmission almost with my eyes closed...not so much with a Troy-Bilt.

Nice find. Troy mowers start at $259, if I'm not mistaken. I'd ask at LEAST $125-$150 for it.

That cleaned up great. Remember the cheeziest mower at walmart is $129 or so and half the power.

I'd see if there's a universal gas cap that fits, or if you can grind the 40:1 embossment off the one you've got. People don't like the "I did it one piece at a time" approach.

I have a very similar mower from Troy-Bilt as my push mower. Mine does not have the shield around the exhaust and is claimed to have 6.75 ft-lb of torque. I paid about $200 about 2 years ago or so for mine at Lowe's, I think it was. You did a great job cleaning it up and fixing it! You should be able to get $100 or maybe a bit more, depending on how much time is on the engine. How did someone ever wind up running a two-stroke mix through that thing?!

I paid roughly $150 for the 2007 model of this ($220 original price at Lowes) about 2 years ago. You can generally get their lawnmowers for cheap when they release next years model + 10% off coupon. But yes if you want the original price of a mower like this, it's $220 and they generally have it "marked down" to $200.
