Briggs engine would have their logo on the label. That would not mean much in terms of quality though. Chinese knockoff engines still achieve a lifespan to outlast the rest of the mower and parts are readily available. On a push mower the engine is not the critical part.

Troybilt hasn't been a botique brand for a long time they were bought out and are now just another MTD badge.

Well, we got the Toro. Starting is awesome and I love how you control your speed by your pressure on the handle bars. Only one mowing and I am happy. Ask me in a couple of years....

I got the $479 one from Tractor Supply.
