Picked up a Sonata Today

The oil pan gasket is seeping a little and so is the valve cover gasket. It's still under powertrain warranty so I just need to take it in.

Nice upgrade Nick. It's 15 years newer, so hard to go wrong there. My neighbor travels a lot and the Sonata is his favorite rental car. I did see one rental for sale with Hertz, a 2015 Sonata for $10,600 but it had about 64k miles on it. You may want to check www.carcomplaints.com for any other common problems.

Update:
It's been about 1 year and 20,600 miles since I bought the Sonata, it has around 72,600 miles on it. . I still love the car, it's really comfortable and roomy. It's been pretty much trouble free since I've owned it. 28.7 mpg average with my commute. The Camry used to get 25.8 mpg. The only issues I've had with the car is the original battery died in October, at about 3-1/2 years old, which is about right for Arizona. When cold outside there's a creak in the front end when I drive away and after driving it goes away and is quiet. It's a previous rental car so who knows what it's gone through, I also drove it completely over a parking brick a few months ago. Got the car stuck on it and was teeter tottering on it, luckily no body damage. Maybe that caused the creaking sound? Sounds like a strut mount to me, not really a big deal.

Overall I'd highly recommend one to someone, they're a great price when bought used and are very comfortable.

Nice! I just had my Elantra 1 year on 2/2. But only about 8,300 miles. No problems to speak of. Just good fuel mileage and performance. I am averaging closer to 33 mpg which is great for the mixed driving I do.

Great car. We have a 2007 given to my wife by very nice older friends a couple years ago. It spent most of it's life in Nevada and was spotless. Very roomy and comfortable, it's my wife's daily driver.

I've got a stash of Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30, Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 & 10w30, Castrol GTX SynBlend 5w30, and various other oils. Haven't decided yet lol.


Is your model spec'd for 30w? I assumed our 2007 was and used 0w30. Then I noticed the use 0w20 on oil filler cap and switched over. Been getting about 4 mpg more since.

Is your model spec'd for 30w? I assumed our 2007 was and used 0w30. Then I noticed the use 0w20 on oil filler cap and switched over. Been getting about 4 mpg more since.


There is no way a change from xw-30 to xw-20 netted you 4MPG. Even Mobil states for their AFE products:

Felt equally smooth, didn't really notice any difference in ride.
Was just going by that guage on the cluster.
