It was still up on craigslist a couple months later when I finally bought something. I doubt anyone ever did buy it, with the condition it was in.

the thought of a piece of the metal dipstick rattling around in the engine, makes my teeth cringe

It wasn't exactly rattling around inside the engine. These particular engines have a very long oil filler "tube," which also doubles as the dipstick tube. The stick had separated from the handle, and was sitting, quite nicely, in this tube. Not in any position to damage the engine, but not in any position to actually make itself useful, either.

Anduril....Cutehumor HAS one of those engines in his Sunfire!

I do too, and I don't like it much....the dipstick set-up, that is!

Seems fine to me; the oil bottles fit perfectly inside the tube upside-down so I can just leave them there to pour themselves.
