Vehicle: See signature
Mileage on filter: 4856
Oil used: PYB/ PHM 10w30 with about half a quart of makeup.
Reinstalled: Fram TG16 and 5 quarts of PYB 10w40 with 1 quart of PYB 5w20

Looks to have held up quite well IMO. It saw plenty of cold starts with little to no startup rattles in the picky Jeep. The ADBV was very pliable yet too. This oil will get sent in for a UOA to Blackstone.

Looks pretty good to me. The couple of wavy pleats don't bother me a bit. Looks good for dealing with cold starts & such. Typical FRAM quality.

Lmao. I sense a troll. But anyway, for a cheap filter they're pretty good. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'd run it for 5K-6K with no hesitation. If you want filters that look 100% perfect when you cut them open, you'll have to spend triple the money for a wire-backed media filter.

The waves would be from the cold weather starts. How many pleats on this one? Can you post a date code?

Thanks for the cut and post!

I just love the wavy pleats.
Makes me think of waves at the gulf coast. Or skirts like back in 50s and 60s with some ruffles and stuff.
Looks really good to me and no tears for folks to complain about.
Thanks for cutting/posting

I'm with Bluestream.

I'll get the date code and count the pleats tomorrow guys. Sorry I didn't think of adding those in the pictures.

Of all the ugly orange Extra Guards, the PH16 & PH8A are always the ugliest. Combined with the sideways orientation & tendency for startup noise on the 4.0, there's no way I would run one. Now an Ultra, especially an XG8A, which I will use for three 5K oil changes-that's what I run. Before anybody says anything, I wouldn't run a Puro Classic or Pure One on it either.

If I had been on a forum for less than a year, I wouldn't be calling a 12+ year member a troll.

+1

I wondering why Fram can't just add a little bit more media/pleats to the PH16 and PH8A?

Yup, the ugliest filter I've ever cut open that wasn't run for some obscene interval was a PH8A off my sister's Explorer. It was hideous.

It is unfortunate that all of my filter threads turn into [censored] matches.

I thought we were supposed to be adults here?

I understand them. Have you ever seen a traffic jam on the opposite side of the highway at an accident scene? It is because people like the fealing that it might have happened to them but they dodged the bullet. This filter might have torn but luckily it did not happen. And they saved 50 cents.

Now we have a Russian talking about quality? The irony is strong with this one.
