People gas it so you cant switch lanes?

I think that is human nature for some reason. I remember being 10 years old, and my uncle would get irate. We'd be in his LeSabre Custom and he'd be overtaking another car while on cruise, and the other car would accelerate and pull away. He'd curse and yell, and his cigar smoke would waft into the back and into our virgin lungs (not for long maybe another 2 years)

What helps if you are trying to discourage someone cutting in is staying to the extreme right of your lane when someone is trying to cut in from the right.
Exactly, I do that frequently just like truckers that are fed up with that tactic. Also guys who have plenty of chance to merge right away yet they'll go absolutely to the end of the merge lane and in doing so cars behind them are forced to brake. Some are actors and give a thank-you like they didn't know what they were doing. Others it's just plain ignorance and entitlement and no acknowledgement.

People in PA never got that memo. It's awesome to see everyone get over to the right ASAP.
Thats because of the State Police In Pennswoods( Gestapo ) Lol Unless you are being sarcastic. Hadn't been there in awhile but I remember those hats and the tickets

I let drivers in if there they have a genuine need to merge, as opposed to those trying to get ahead of other drivers. For the second category I close up the distance so they cannot come in.

This is my situation day in, day out. I’m in the left turn lane, waiting to make a left where the traffic lights are.

All the cars to my left, have bypassed the line. They’re on the wrong side of the double yellow, and on the trolley tracks for the train coming the other direction. What you don’t see, are the cars cutting from the right side. They’re in the lane to go straight. Again, only cars like myself are in the proper left turn lane.

^This.
A police officer friend once told me that you signal to notify, not to ask permission. I use the three-flash auto blinker on my car after I've already found my spot and ready to move into it. Polite, but assertive.
True. Not sure where them trying to zoom by you as soon as you move over comes into play. I guess they're the idiots that basically just ran into you since you're responsible for everything in front of you.

Here in Atlanta you use the turn signal as a decoy. If you want to get in the right lane, signal to go left and fake them out.
Yeah, like the Falcons faked out the Patriots in the SB. For three quarters they actually played like a real football team. 😂

I had a cop do this to me just now, but I see regular people do this too. As soon as they see you trying to get over to switch lanes they try to buzz past you as you start moving over. The cop was across the yellow line against the curb buzzing past me and I had to get back over so I didn't hit him
So if I'm to understand you, the roads are now so crowded and your time is now so valuable, that other drivers are no longer allowed to cruise along with a safe following distance in front of them.

I guess your next post will be about why do other drivers slow down when I follow so close to the back of their vehicle. I'm not tailgating, I'm practicing my NASCAR drafting skills.

When I moved to phila in 1999, I posted online asking why people don’t use turn signals. A person answered earnestly, saying if you don’t signal you can change lanes without incident. There is a tendency that when you do signal, a person closes the gap and you’re not able to change lanes. The difference between then and now is back then it mattered if a car had plates, a licensed driver, inspection, insurance, and limo tints. Today it doesn’t so there are way more extreme examples of bad behavior. Limo tints afford the driver protection from cams of all kinds—dash, surveillance, speed, red light, folks using a smartphone, etc. but I think it’s highly dangerous for law enforcement not to mention driving at night. I actually don’t think these cars can go up to NYC nor DC. They would have to just drive in Phila. Where the quintuple violations are allowed.

People in PA let’s face it, cannot and will not alternate merge. There is a tendency to merge at a 45 to 90 (yes 90) degree angle at the top of the on ramp, at a complete stop. The purpose of an on-ramp is to match the speed of traffic and merge smoothly.

I encounter people doing what you say at an on ramp. It truly makes no sense. It isn’t a personal event, it’s random. The Holland tunnel goes 9 into 2, Lincoln Tunnel 12 into 3. It never stops it’s a continuous alternate merge scenario.

Maybe, we should ask ourselves, “What would they do in Germany?” When speeds are high?

Once driving into NYC I my lane to the toll booth was closed up ahead and folks on both sides, kept speeding up to close any gaps to prevent me to get in.
So I switched my tactic
I put on my turn signal to the opposite side I was going to making the guy miss his opportunity to block me.

It’s truly fascinating today how many “personalize” a driving scenario where it’s actually random. When cars cut in front of me and are on top of trolley tracks for the trolley coming the other direction, they didn’t choose me to cut in front of 😂

Anyway, random google because I would have really fallen out of my seat if any DMV says to merge at the top of an on-ramp from a complete stop and at a 45-90 Degree angle and block others from merging by driving half in the merge lane 😂

Carrier drivers are not taught to do that if a truck does that likely a gypsy or glider type of trans co

And just like that - the OP’s question is answered!

And if you need to change lanes in order to take the next exit? How do you feel about people stepping on it to block you out?
What goes around comes around, can’t be mad at someone for doing the same thing. It is traffic dependent however.

Out here, traffic at worst is “moderate” most of the time so what should be a non issue is just some impatient person who clearly wants to taste a 6,000lb vehicle the hard way.

Heavy freeway traffic on the once a year road trip we do? This already sucks and I ain’t gonna make it worse on anyone else, but I’m only letting a car or 2 go.

In town? I know where I’m going, I’ll just get in the correct lane well in advance before it becomes an issue, as I drive a crew cab truck around and I like it too much to be cramming it between 2 vehicles.
