Pentius PLXL1495P disappointment

Having just purchased a case of PRC produced PLXL10575 filters, I was very alarmed to see your findings.
To me, this is about as bad as it gets as far as filter quality control and potential engine damage.
I picked a random filter from my case and cut it open and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and build.
All holes free of any slugs, tidy glue inside and out, and evenly spaced pleats.
I hope yours is an isolated run of these and I am glad you caught it.
I will certainly be inspecting EVERY filter from now on with a bore scope before install, definitely an eye opener.
I could share pictures of mine here if there is any interest or start a new thread.

Metal. It does appear to be painted with a gray coating. Magnet sticks, scratches like metal.

Very interesting. I did a c&p of the new Mobil 1 oil filter and it also has a metal bypass valve. I remember mentioning in my post it reminded more of a Pentius build.

Purchased at Walmart for $11.44.

Definitely gives me Pentius vibes to be honest. Most likely VAFI built(made in Vietnam). Some models are made in South Korea. A little extra glue but otherwise a high quality build. Much better than the previous M+H made Mobil 1 filters. Highline Warren is handling the warranty on these.

Tomorrow I’ll cut out the media and get measurements.

Nice big nubs around the circumference of end cap on the base end to keep the cartridge centered and give a good flow area between the end cap and can.

I have three 12 packs of the PLXL7317 filters that I bought months ago from Amazon. All three 12 pack boxes say: Made in Korea.
So these filters should be ok.

It appears the engine killer Pentius PLXL filters are the ones made in China?

I bought a case as well. So far from the ones I have looked at they seem very well made.

Aw man. Way to scare me. I just put the first from my case on my Pilot the other day and didn't bother inspecting it beforehand. After frantically pulling the box out they are fortunately Korean and look great.

You're likely good, the Korean 7317 are nice!

When I was in the USAF, I was the midnight shift supervisor. We worked intelligence inside a SCIF. During the day, we had a guard checking IDs, controlling access. At night, the vault door was closed and locked. If our work was done and I could, I'd let people go home, but when I couldn't let them go home and the work was done, my rule was find someplace to sleep, but just make sure I knew where you were in case someone called to be let inside.

One morning at 5am, the phone rang. It was our commander at the door. I quickly ran through the vault to wake everyone up who was sleeping, then let him in. He was just stopping by to say "Hi" and visit for a bit.

Anyone who was in the military in the 70s and 80s will remember the bed covers which had raised lines from head to foot. We used them in the vault to cover classified data when visitors without sufficient clearance was in the vault. My guys would use these as pillows, but the downside was the embedded stripes left in their face for about 30 minutes. So here we were, talking to our commander, and half my guys' faces had stripes all down their faces. Not a peep about it. We always got our work done and he knew it.

I inspected all of the Pentius filters I have on hand for this type of defect. Twelve PLXL2 filters and eleven remaining PLXL10575 filters. My daughter did find one slug that had not been fully punched out in one of the PLXL2 filters. She picked at it with a small screwdriver for a while and was unable to dislodge it. I feel pretty sure it would not have gone anywhere but to be on the safe side I tossed it out. The photo with the flashlight from the outside is before it was picked at and the photo with the borescope is after it was picked at. The borescope came in really handy inspecting the areas by the baseplate and my daughters good eyes came in handy inspecting the rest.
Once again, I will never screw a filter onto any of my vehicles without a thorough inspection for this or any other type of defect. This thread has been a real eye opener for me.

Kind of hard to quantify as even one is too many.

I have a PGI (China) made STP 10590 oil filter that has its center tube punch outs like it was double rolled with over lapping holes and thin barbed piece that look like they can break off.
