Haven't seen any info about the possibility of Ultra 0W20 recently. So, I emailed Shell today and received the following response regarding producing a 0W20 Ultra:

"We appreciate you e- mailing our company. We don't have plans at this time to make a 0W-20 in our Ultra line.

Technical Department"

I guess I was under the impression from some older posts that Pennzoil Ultra was coming out sometime soon in a 0W20. I guess not...

Since they already have PP 0w-20, it seems unlikely they'll come up with another 0w-20, but yes, back when Pennzoil did the Q&A for BITOG, they did mention at that point that they were planning to have PU 0w-20. I guess the plans have changed.

SOPUS in general seems to be very reactive. They won't just put a product on the shelf unless there is a big market out there first screaming for it.

I haven't even seen the PP in 0W-20. At one point, they were saying that they'd have a 0W-20 at the mass retail level by the end of 2011 (or was it 2010?). Either date has come and gone.

All of the Pep Boys near me carry PP 0w20.

For longest time, you couldn't get PP 0W-20 up here, but now WM and Canadian Tire carry it.

Not suprised about no PU 0W-20; PU doesn't seel worth a carp anyway.....

It's also apparent they have no plans to update their ancient PDS or confirm/deny their erroneous PDS info which stated
ridiculously low NOACK for a Group 3 oil.

Pennzoil dropped the ball BIG TIME when it came to Ultra! It had the possibility of being a very popular oil, but the marketing was very poor, and the lack of available viscosities that people really want didn't help either.

The problem with Ultra is Platinum. It just doesn't make sense having both products. And they're very similar in price, but Platinum is always slightly cheaper. They all need to look at how XOM has marketed M1 over the years.

I don't know exactly what SOPUS was expecting. I wouldn't have expected Ultra to take away vast numbers of Mobil 1's customers. It probably cannibalised more PP sales than M1 sales. It should have been marketed as extended drain, or at least had more viscosities available.

When I did see it up here, it was 5w-20, 5w-30, and 10w-30. Gee, that's all we needed - more oil in those grades.

In Canada it was more confusing because Walmart sold Ultra for about $1 to $2 LESS per jug than Platinum! So how could Pennzoil try to market Ultra as their best oil with this kind of pricing confusion? It was doomed right from the start up here!

They dropped the ball big time is right! How about a 0W30 in PP or PU? Mobil is cleaning up in that department.

It wasn't being promoted at Walmart though, it was many months where it was priced a buck or two cheaper than PP, both of them were around $46 to $48 a jug, so neither of them were on sale by any means. It wasn't until the very end, when Ultra was on clearance and being phased out, that Walmart dropped Ultra's price down to $35 (and then finally at around $25 I believe)

I contacted Pennzoil today, and I was told to look out for PU 0W-20 in March or April 2014! M1 0W-20 has served my car well, but the tests and excellent reviews for PU have prompted me to switch.
