I tried doing a search and it is probably hidden away somewhere but not able to find an answer so will post here. Shell owns both the Pennzoil and Quaker State brands. Are the respective "synthetic" oils actually the same formulation? Notice that QS synthetic oil (forgot the name) is several dollars cheaper (5 quarts) than Pennzoil Platinum. What is the difference? Thanks a lot.

I have been using Quaker State Synthetic 5W20 in both vehicles we own + the past Two.

Looks like I will continue using it for a few years as our Wal-Mart had it on clearance for $5.00 for a 5 quart jug!! A Dollar a quart for synthetic oil.

We are not into extended drains and normally change oil between 3 and 4 thousand miles because of a lot of short trips.

From the Pennzoil Ultra FAQ on this site:

37. What is the relationship (differences) between the Formula Shell®, Quaker State® and Pennzoil® product lines?

We are all one company under the Shell Group, but we understand that consumers have a very strong brand preference – for whatever the reason. We respect this and have marketers and formulations to support the different brands. Rest assured that the specific formulations for Formula Shell®, Quaker State® and Pennzoil® are different from each other.
