Hi I have a bunch of these two oils Pennzoil 0w-40 Ultra Classic and 0w-40 Ultra Platinum, both are API SN and have a Chrysler MS-12633 specification and are marketed for SRT motors. I want to find out how to figure out if either of these oils have friction modifiers. I emailed Pennzoil and I haven't heard back.

I remember when this Oil was a Bitog Favorite, just use it. since this oil is marketed for an SRT Motor, just use it.

All engine oils should contain some friction modifier. These oils wouldn't pass the API SN fuel economy tests without it. If a UOA of these oils show some molybdenum, they have friction modifier. If it doesn't contain moly, it probably just uses a non-metallic friction modifier.

Yes, they do, in multiple forms - organic and organo-metallic. Leave the bottles in the warm sun for about thirty minutes, shake well, and use.

I want to use it in my motorcycle that specs a 10w-40, I am curious about the friction modifiers because of the wet clutch.

I dont know the that much about oils but Honda brand motorcycle oil used to have molybdenum in it and I even remember back in the early 90's Kal-Gard made a motorcycle oil that had so much molybdenum in it that it was black going in so I'm pretty sure thats stuff is ok with wet clutches

Is there really a difference between these 2 oils except for the name and label change?

I have a couple of quarts of 0w40 PUP's (the one on the right looking at the picture) that are dated 3/24/14 (same as the one pictured).
I've thought about running them by adding 1 quart to a 5qt. jug of PUP 5w20 that I have from the same era (2014) in my Escape which takes 6 quarts when I run the 3600 oil filter. Would the chemistry of the 2014 0w40 PUP be similar enough to the 2014 5w20 PUP to avoid 'additive clash'....or as Lake Speed Jr. refers to it ...'cross contamination'. Thoughts and opinions?

I don’t think mixing similar oil is that big of a deal, personally. 5 quarts of Castro 10/30 and 1 of 5/30 for example.

I do like the Lake Speed videos, but he “rinsed” a new quart through on his daughter’s Corolla? That’s seems excessive to me. I did buy a coffee frother and a beaker though! Next time I go to use a quart of that 0/40,I’ll froth it up and see how it foams and if the bubbles disperse promptly like I saw Lake Speed do. I used that method to 86 some oil I knew was bad already, and I did test it on some other oils as well.

Your question about using these in a shared sump motorcycle should be a big resounding no. You want a JASO MA2 rated oil, not an automotive oil.

Besides, don’t waste a good engine oil on something you’d be draining and then complaining about its poor performance in short order in the wrong application. Use it as makeup oil in your daily driver before you ever try it in a motorcycle.

Look at my post in the used motorcycle oil analysis. 2018 GoldWing. Works great. Almost 500,000 miles on Japanese bikes and have NEVER used MOTORCYCLE oils.

10 yr old oil. Additive fallout and water vapor has permeated the walls of the containers. Send them to the recycler.

Shaking the bottles does not work.
