I broke down and bought a new-to-me used car to replace the other that I was starting to pay higher prices for parts, and of which were becoming less readily availible, not to mention the worry at to if I would make it to my destination. Anyway, as for my income, it was a hard earned investment outside of previous college expenses...so yes this vehicle represented more than just a-b transportation.
Like many, parking far from the enterance at my retail place of employment hoping to avoid any problems, I venture out one evening and it was pointed out to me by a co-worker as we approached our vehicles, that a shopping cart had damaged the tailgate of my car. Either this was a cart on a suicide mission (angled parking lot, why to such a degree is beyond me and just plain poor planning), or someone drove into it, and thus into the back of my car. The basket was convienently higher than the cars molded plastic bumber, so it just went slamming off-angle into the sheetmetal. And yes, no note.
Thankfully the paint wasn't damged outside of a few fine web lines where the metal had been creased/stretched. I saved the cost of repair by bumping the dent out as well as I could, about 3/4-1 inch at it's deepest, and about the overall size of a melon, leaving slight crease deformation at it's most vertical dimension or so. I waxed it and later strategically placed a decal of other meaning about it.
Because I was parking in what the company deemed "associate parking", I though they might cover the damage...not so as they don't own the parking lot!
Other more minor damages have occurred since, but I have been more able to acknowledge the fact that it all hasn't come to defeat the purpose of the vehicle, nor to effect the way it operates. The interior still looks nice and is comfortible. I still take efforts of prevention through all the work I put it through (hauling, towing, etc.), but I have through many painful personal experiences (probably all that I have set myself up for in the past, most unknowingly), that I/we have limits.
This is all troublesome, but I don't think revenge is the answer (though emotionally it's most immediately gratifying).
to here the upset.
