Without Auto-RX though, right?

quite possibly. everyone and their drives are different.

As a side, I think I do know why the MPG continued to increase. The car got serious hail damage and is dimpled like a golf ball now. If the Mythbuster guys are right, that could have a significant affect on the aerodynamics of the car like they saw in their experiments.

IIRC the Military is experimenting with dimpled bullets, and the results are quite good.

HAIL DAMAGE & AUTO-RX increase gas mileage. LOL

Both had previously been proven separately. I guess I am the first to show a synergistic affect between the two.

Maybe the Hail Damage, but I have not seen any proof that arx increases gas mileage.

I had a slight mpg but nothing to write home about. Increase about 0.5 mpg. Actually it wasn't a gain but brought back mpg from loss of mpg as mileage increased.

Increase how small it is maybe $35/year in fuel savings. My gears has more response ... wasn't expecting any miracles but I'm pleased with the results.

I do not see anything on the back of a bottle of arx that says or claims that the product increases gas mileage.

LOL Maybe I need to go see Gary Allan so he can reprogram me.

It's everywhere.. paid posters are on Facebook, Myspace, etc. They are hawking everything from the lastest movie to music videos to jeans. They post on Youtube, blogs, etc. It is marketing, but I feel it is a bit cloaked in a type of semi-opinionated factoid reality.
Buyer beware, reader beware. Truth being told, I am sure there are paid posters on our site, I appreciate the honesty of someone who praises a certain product, say Amsoil, but then dialoges about their involvement with said product. That type of posting is fair and real and is given and taken in that context. My 2 cents.

DON'T drive it. I was in pretty much the exact same situation. (albeit I had been using the proper oil). 02 1.8T w/ 113,000 miles. I tried Auto-RX and thought it was working. 1000 miles into the Auto-RX treatment my engine seized and was trashed. $3500 later I learned an expensive lesson.

My understanding is that dropping the oil pan in the 1.8T requires lifting the engine. It's not an easy job. If you are worried about getting in over your head, I would have the car towed to a competent mechanic. Have them drop the pan, replace the pump/pick-up screen if need be, clean the pan and run some engine clean cycles.

I'm guessing you've probably got a good $1,000 of work in front of you... but from experience, $1,000 would be much better than $3,500.

Hey guys, an ARX Moderator e-mailed me this from PassatWorld, its safe to say that this engine was probably on its way out, but you can see that sometimes arx or any other oil additive might not fix a neglected engine.

+1 I am very suspicious of several here. I have great respect for those openly sharing insider knowledge. Nothing but contempt for the fakes.

It's pretty easy to tell who's who by the ones that hurl the insults and invective. Someone who's just interested in passing along their experience isn't going to get angry and abusive when someone posts a contrary opinion.

Best,
