The pleats look a little more opened up on the crimp side than in real life. This is a very small filter. All filters open up at the crimped end it seems, but when you have a metal crimp and a metal center tube it is no concern.
The ADBV is so impressive in how tight it seals and solidness that it is almost a reason to get the P1 as much or more than for the higher filtering efficiency. I could live with the Classics 97.5% efficiency for the price, but the ADBV not only prevents oil from draining out of the filter, but is what seals the filtered side from the unfiltered. The P1 silicone ADBV seals very well for both drain back and the baseplate to filter element interface even after a full OCI. the metal to metal bypass also seemed to be very tight.
