OK so I went over the little P1 14476 filter with a fine tooth comb to see if the media's bond to the end caps near the media seam crimp is really an issue.
The media pleats seem to fit into slots in a plastic cap and are bonded. The cap is also bonded to the steel end cap. On each side of the media crimp the there are two pleats that are gapped more than the rest and over time the media distorts, gets wavy like all filters can do. There is some abrasion of the filter media where these pleats go into the plastic cap but it would be very hard for the pleat to complete tear from the end cap and alow oil through.
