I am having a difficult time finding data to determine which oversize oil filter(s) works on my vehicle. The application guides at my local auto parts stores don't list the filter specifications. Can someone please look up a filter for me or steer me to a good source for the data?

2002 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L V6.

I am looking for a LONGER filter with the same thread, gasket, bypass valve psi (somewhere between 14 and 20 psi), and diameter. I can't go any bigger around but, I can use a filter up to about 5 inches long.

Thanks in advance.

Scooter, here is some help for you!

In the Purolator catalog it lists the L10241 as your stock filter, and it lists it as a 2.98x3.42 filter with a 3/4-16" UNF-2B connection and a 12-15psi relief valve.

I found a filter that sounds perfect for the longer choice! It's an L20195, and it's 2.98x4.77, has the same connection, and also has a 12-15psi relief valve (and the antidrainback too)

So with this number you can cross reference it to many other filters. Let me know which brand you want me to cross reference it to and I'll see if it's listed in this Purolator catalog (I've got the 2002 version)

The AC Delco PF56 is a cross reference to that, under Bosch is just says OF-143 but I think that is the standard Bosch, not the premium. This catalog doesn't list Mobil 1 filters.

With the above numbers you should be able to cross reference to many other filters, just look in your local parts stores for the catalogs.

I found more cross references for you just now:

NAPA Gold=1516
NAPA Silver=21516
Supertech=ST3600
STP=S0400
Wix=51516

Happy hunting! Let us know what you choose.

I had so little luck locating anything that was substantially larger for my 4Runner, I installed a remote that uses a full sized Ford style filter. 6 1/2 quarts of oil capacity now. Yes!

I think if I was going to run a filter in the stock location I'd stick with Toyota OEM. I don't know the filtration numbers on them but they appear to be very high quality...

I also have a 02 toyota tacoma v6 and when i called champion labs for a mobil 1 filter they provided the m209 as a larger filter. I leaves plenty of room on the top for a oil filter wrench.

I have a '94 2.4 L which calls for the same filter as the Tacoma. I use the K&N HP-2009-Not recommended by anyone-but what else is new. I have used the Purolator equivalent of this filter for years and have gotten OK oil analysis . BTW it is the filter specified for the Newer 2.0 L Fords. I believe the relief is set at 11-14 psi vs 8-11 psi in the Toyota Specified filter.

Scooter,

I run either the SDF-34 or SDF-96 oil filters on my Tacoma, which uses the same OEM filter as your toyota engine. The SDF-34 is simply a longer version of the filter that is on there, but the SDF-96 is both wider @ 3.75" and longer @ 4.25".
If you really have lots of room, you can go to the SDF-15, which holds a full quart.

Another option is an OEM VW/Audi filter that fits the 2.0L engine, made by MANN filter company in Germany. These are very well constructed filters with a by-pass valve opening pressure of approx 20 psid. Length is the same as the SDF-34 filter, about 4.75", but with the same diameter as the toyota filter.

Since you are going to a larger filter, I would not sweat minor differences in by-pass valve opening pressure. The SDF filters use a synthetic media that allows very high flow rates ....

Scooter,
Read these links, hope they help. Toyota 4x4 forum
2 Toyota filters

Double-check your part #s but I think the 90915-20004 would give you an OEM, oversize filter. If I read the links correctly, your filter # should be 90915-YZZB9 or 08922-02011, which the 90915-20004 could replace.
