I see a lot of comments on Mobil 1 AFE and European formula, but not so much on the regular Mobil 1. Since O'Reilly has Mobil 1 on sale right now for $33.99 with a Mobil 1 filter, and I have a $10 store card from a Castrol rebate, that seems like a no-brainer.

Anyway, what's the feeling on the regular, non-EP, non-AFE Mobil 1?

5w30 is low ash and is the only M1 to meet HTO-06. I just bought a couple of cases at Costco's sale price of $4.35+tx. If I feel like it needs a bit more viscosity or add pack, I'll mix in a little 0W-40 which I'll assume you can also get at the sale price at O'Reilly.

A lot of people are paying the extra money for the EP oils where the Mobil 1 classic would work just fine. Personally, I don't think it is worth the extra money. The AFE is just a new category for the 0W oils. I go back and forth between the AFE and the classic 5W in my vehicles, but I don't push the oil past 10K miles either.

That link to the M1 oil finder is always worth checking for the recommended oil type and max OCI etc.
Major brand dino oils (Not odd label supermarket, convenience store or Internet) are OK if you don't push the OCI limits, are not breaching manufacturers warranty and are not in the severe service classification (Too much time stuck in traffic or off roading etc).
If your engine is subject to severe service use like mine (Multiple stop starts and driver abuse), then a top of the range fully synthetic does help slightly, BUT cutting the recommended OCI in half is more of a help.
