Hello all, new user here. I am the proud owner of an 03 Jeep Wrangler Sport with the 4.0 engine. I bought it new and have always used 10w30 Valvoline in it since its first OC. The manual calls for 10w30 motor oil that meets the the requirements of Chrystler MS6395. Valvoline meets this requirement and I run STP oil filters. It has no leaks but just turned 108,000 miles. Is the high mileage oil worth it or should I keep feeding it the Valvoline white bottle without concern? Average 10,500 - 11,000 miles yearly mostly highway miles. I live in the Midwest so the temps vary from below freezing to fry an egg on the sidewalk lol

On my 2004 Grand Cherokee, same engine, Valvoline had the same very low wear numbers as Amsoil did in a 5000 mile test. I'd say keep doing what you are doing...what is your OCI (oil change interval)?

No need for a high mileage oil, IMO. Note: I tested Valvoline 5w30 (which I know is spec'd for below 60*F) and have been using either 5w or 0w30 for the last 50000 miles, all with good results.

edit: Oh yeah, and

I'm still a relative newb when it comes to motor oil and as my sig testifies, I am running MaxLife NextGen (semi-syn) in my Burb, but I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If there are no leaks, it's not burning oil, and there is no reason to think you need higher detergent levels to clean up an abused engine, stick with VWB.

I stick with the 3,000 mile interval. Thanks for the input and it's always nice to talk to a fellow Jeeper

Thanks for the reply I am not new to maintance on vehicles but I am new to the site. I value any and all opinions on here and hope I can help out with someone else's problems or questions, I'm an ASE mechanic. As far as using something with extra detergent levels, my engine is not an abused one. I run 3,000 mile oil change intervals and the inside of the engine is clean I just would like to keep it that way.

Your driving condition is easy on oil, you can easily do 6k/6mo OCI with better oil filters than STP. Purolator Classic or Purolator Pure 1 can be found at most parts stores for few dollars more than STP.

I have heard good things about Purolator filters but the Autozone and Advance near me does not stock the filter for my application. I know Purolator makes the factory Mopar filters but I don't think I should have to pay almost $20 for 1 especially on the OCI's I stick to

If you have a walmart around you, you might find Purolator Classics there. The ones around me all seem to have a decent selection in that line. Also you can purchase in bulk ( 6 at a time ) from Amazon and get free shipping to your doorstep.

If you have a Napa near you, you can also use Wix made Napa Gold FIL 1085 filters. Same filter can be found at Carquest under part# 85085 ( blue line ).

Maxlife is an excellent fluid, and will work well in your application. You do not have to have leaks in order to use a HM oil. Besides, after the recent reformulation, it is resource conserving as well.

Yes there is a Walmart close by but they do not stock the Purolators. I will have to check out the Napa store for the Wix filters. My Walmart stocks Fram

I would rather start using a high mileage oil before leaks present themselves, and the extra anti wear additives can't hurt either. I say go for it. Preventative measures are always smart. Once a leak presents itself it may be too late.
I use half a can of liqui-moly motor oil saver with every oil change in every vehicle I own and a partial can ever second oil change in my equipment at work. I've got air compressors that are 10 years old with 10000 hours that dont have any gasket weeping. Includes 10 Saskatchewan winters that include starts at ambient temps of. -40.
My cousins crew has the same air compressor. After a few years in these operating conditions his machines develop oil leaks that require new gaskets.
I'm firm in my belief that the motor oil saver has extended then lives of my gaskets, the liqui-moly mos2 has extended the lives of my equipment and my tc-w3 has all but eliminated any carb problems.
My experience as a backyard chemist seems to be working. My lack of needing any service on my equipment tells me it is anyways.

WIX 51085 is $4.65 at Rockauto.com, buying 6-12 at a time will reduce shipping cost per filter to around $1-2 each, and possibe no tax.

Also, there is 5% discount code in the sale-promotion sub-forum.

There is a local parts store here called Kentucky Motors that stocks Hastings filters for my Jeep priced at $3.57

Has anyone ever had a UOA done on this particulare oil? Since I don't have any leaks now, does anyone have any input as to if it will prevent future leaks if I use it since it says on the bottle it helps reduce leaks?

It's a good motor oil. There have been several UOAs on this forum with low wear numbers, good TBN retention, etc. It has a stronger detergent content than Valv. conventional.

I'm using 10w30 HM oils in my Jeep right now ('99 Cherokee Classic, 4.0, 190K). Was leaking a little bit before I switched to the HM oils. Currently using Defy but will use NexGen because of rebate offer with the next change. From what I have found, these 4.0L engines are happy and easy on the 10w30 oils and will go a long ways if properly maintained. Current Filter is a K&N that I will use for 12-15k before switching.

Yes these motors are bulletproof and I was not aware of the rebate on the NexGen oils. Does Valvoline offer the NexGen in a high mileage application?

I say go for the Maxlife. I believe rear main seal leaks are pretty common on these engines, so it couldn't hurt to start early and try to prevent it.
