Opinions on PYB and Motorcraft mix.

I've been reading on here how people like to try to find a mixture that works for them. I was looking into mixing Pennzoil Conventional and Motorcraft for my Grand marquis.

Pyb has a large amount of Moly at about 240ppm and an ok amount of boron at about 110ppm. Motorcraft is the opposite with a large amount of Boron approx. 235ppm and a decent amount of Moly 80ppm. The base stock in both I would guess is similar, Pennzoil Conventional has a group II+ and Motorcraft is a mix or Group II and III.

Now unless i'm doing the math wrong (which is possible) Wouldnt an equal mixture or 3 quarts each leave a mixture of 160ish ppm of Moly and 172ish ppm Boron? With a mixture that has slightly better cold starting properties since Motorcraft is a blend. I know that Moly and Boron are important so I figured it would be great to have a good equal amount of both.

What are youe guys opinions? Would this be a good idea? Or is there a downside to this logic?

I don't like to blend across brands myself, you have no idea what you're really gonna get, but it is not likely to be an "improvement" IMO. I prefer to even stay within the same line within a brand, I believe the results are a little more predictable that way.

But I doubt you'd have the slightest issue with that mix either.

I would just keep using the Motorcraft..The 4.6 seems to really seems like to it..My 99 Marquis liked the Motorcraft for 200K miles..It never needed a drop of oil between OCI'S [Motorcraft 5W20 Blend] every 5K miles..Engine was very clean though the oil filler cap.

The only other oil I would consider is Mobil 1..That works well on my friends 4.6 2007 P71 Police Interceptor and former owner operated Taxi with 270K miles.
